list em here, and say what u think is the best cooler based on sound and temp.

A passive cooler...
...and it is silent. :)

lol I have a Nforce 2 which just has a crappy heatsink attached to it.

pay the Hardocp forums a visit.

a small active cooler.

@mrchimp...alot of times a good heatsink perfoms better than a fan.

those dinkey fans, with a small heatsink, arent very good... best to have a some what larger, heatsink with no fan!!.. plus ull probably never need to have different cooling then the stock cooling for the northbridge, unless ur a serious overclocker.

The most I do is remove my passive heatsink and reinstall it with thermal paste. :)
Buying a special cooler for it is a waste unless you are OCing a lot and then you might be considering liquid cooling.

Geheh? Why do you need better cooling for Mr. Northbridge? I didn't think it was affected by any type of CPU overclocking...

Intergrated Sound overclocking anyone? o_O...

Doesn't it control the buses, PCI, AGP, memory etc...?

Don't slap me though if I'm wrong. ;)

Yeah, but most of the time AGP and PCI clock speeds are locked, as to prevent needing better cooling on northbridge.

Umm... actually they rarely are locked these days, most of todays boards are going the way of "I wanna clock my comp, gimme bios settings and hardware support for it".

Memory is never locked, except on some crappy boards.

well to be quite honest I wouldn't care if fans were better, my CPU fan has some gigantic jet engine type thing attached to it (aero 7 lite i think). I don't want anymore fans in my case other than that, although I have some case fans but they don't do shit so I just have them turned off.

i just meant the northbridge.

alot of times they will have little fans on them that are crap.

A decent passive heatsink often times cools better.

but none of the above matters unless your doing some extreme overclocking

the stock NB cooler on your mobo can handle whatever 98% of people do with there pcs.....

im goona get the zalman cooler, the blue one. looks like a moutain if u look at the heatsink from a angle,
