Picture attached below:

- The water is not tied to an entity
- There are no map leaks
- There are no props sticking out the map
- I've tried different water textures, same result
- There are no func_details intersecting the water, only displacements

I dunno whats wrong, water normally works fine but it won't in this map for some reason, anyone had this problem or know of any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm perfectly aware that site exists, i use it all the time. Whats wrong with using the hl2.net forum attach option?? Could've answered my question instead of being useless tbh.

And no its not the texture, ive tried 3 different ones, all are screwy :\

Well its the same all over...

Looks like a vid card glitch to me. Does the water look alright in the standard HL2 levels? If not you might try DX8 instead or change the quality settings in the options to see if it makes a difference.

...It's not very helpful giving us an image so small that it could be completely obscured with a french fry. Larger images in the future, please.

You ran VIS, right?

The size of the image didn't matter, whats the difference between a small section of water and a large one, it all has the same problem.

Yes i ran vis, of course. I'm not a noob :p

It's not a gfx glitch iirc as ive had it before but it sorted itself out back then...im gonna try copying everything to a new file see if that sorts it

My graphics card doesn't support reflection in any form. All of my water textures appear grey. ;)

Out of curiosity, did you build the cubemaps when you were using a purple/blue texture, and were you using a valid texture or one with _beneath or some other strange thing in its name?

Yeah cubemaps didnt help, and i tried most of the textures, but i dont think i tried one of the _beneath ones...I think the problem has something to do with CSS as normally i make maps in HL2 DM, this is the first time ive tried putting water in CSS and it hasn't worked properly...only reason i can think of for the error...

Yup, hence the small photo to start with, didn't want to give to much away incase there were crafty interlopers lurkin around here :)

actually i've seen this weird multicoloured tiling effect in the game itself on all kinds of surfaces including brushes and displacements (not in water yet), but only since i got my 6600GT and had the full DX9 on. it comes and goes, for no apparent reason. maybe a driver issue? what card do you use?

Radeon 9600, spose it could be a driver issue, ill have to look into it if i get the problem with a future map

i dont think those blue water textures arent meant to be used, just like the model textures you see listed among the textures when u map. valve needs to put a filter fot things like this.

I know what you mean about the model textures but you can use those blue ones
