What mods will HL2 ship with?

I've never played the original half-life so I'm just wondering if they have said anything about which mods will ship with HL2. I'm assuming DM, TDM, CTF. What else?
 
well those arent mods really.
those are "gametypes"
valve have been very hush hush about multiplayer so at this point no one has a clue.
however DM, TDM are pretty mush expected, as for anything else... we dont know.

The original half-life shipped with Deathmatch, and team death match and even though now the HL1 engine (with its mods) is the number one online played game... when it first came out the only thing that stopped it from achieving 100% ratings (it got in the high 98s) was because its multiplayer was said to be lacking.

now lets hope Valve learned their lesson their first time through...
 
i would think the answer to the thread title is zero..

but like Mr. Redundant has said.. Valve has been hush-hush about MP.. so the best piece of advice for anyone here is..

don't expect anything inlcuded with HL2.. aside from perhaps a bonus section or some sort.. and when u get ur copy and if theres another mod or something included with it, it will come off as a pleasant surprise.
 
Im pretty sure that Valve is gonna cook up something special for us in the multiplayer section, cant wait!

hmm. i'm not too sure whether HL2 multiplayer will be any good. Obviously when the mods come it will, but I have a weird feeling, unlike me. ;(

What about the possibility of Team Fortress 2 or atleast a cut down version of it, with the retail version following later?

do you honestly think Valve would give you TF2 then after like a month say "oh hey guys you can pay for it too if you want!, guys..... guys???"
 
he means a version of TF 2 just not all the features....so its like a Demo of the upcoming TF2 i think......(That can be played online).

If it does ship with a mod it will most likely be 1 mod at the most, and not an anticipated one they can make money with first (CS, DoD)

maybe it will ship with those things from UT2003...you know...instagib....I Think they're called mutators
 
im worried about HL2 being like UT2003 multiplayer, sure its got latest graphics (in its time) and what not, but no one played\plays it.
lets hope for the best.
 
Well Gabe said HL2 Multiplayer was going to be something special, and I have faith in him. Doubt the Gabe and thou shalt be struck down, except on release dates.
 
Not sure they would want to ship a really great or revolutionary multiplayer with HL2, as that might stop people from buying TF2 or CS2.

I hope I'm wrong though...

Yes sorry, that is what i ment, a cut down version of Team Fortress 2.
 
Have u Never played Ricochet !!!! its one of the official mods. Its pretty shit :)

I hope it comes with a TFC mod, just cos thats good to mess about on.
 
Lol, for some reason I have a sudden urge to play Ricochet, even though it is sucktastic. Deathmatch Classic sucks more though.

CTF, TDM and DM aren't mods. They are gamemodes.

A mod is a modification about the original game. ie.: other sounds, models, gameplay feeling, textures etc. But mods still using some of the original game files!

CS2 and TF2 will not ship with HL2. And no, they are not mods. They are a complete new game running on the V-Source engine and don't use HL2 files.

Unless CS2/TF2 will be an 'addon'... I am still not sure of it. I don't think CS2/TF2 will require HL2 files
 
I have a nice neuraliser,

they're not true apart from the buggy nitro thing. It's half-life 2 man, anything can be expected!

@ Brass Monkey: Yes, but you would be expected to say that whether they were true or not. If they are true, you'd just be trying to get off the hook. If they weren't true, then you'd just say the same thing, though you'd be telling the truth.
 
The death was purely made up (could be possible - more likely to be the G man).
The aforementioned map is real but i have no knowledge of it. multiplayer purely an educated guess - Could have been perfect till i saw the gabe interview claiming that co-op would be worked on by a mod-team so it was incorrect.

I will not pass on the links to such sites (but they do have some good video's of the beta)... the beta also has jumbled up dialogue and only a couple of spoilers that are probably known by all by now, no deaths are discussed in the beta.

I expect this to be deleted and have only written this to prove that you have been neuralised again and promise not to post anything that could spoil anyones gaming pleasure.
 
I know barely any spoilers at all. I like it that way.

The problem here is that I don't know whether to believe you or not about your claim to have made up the spoilers.

For all I know, you're just trying not to get banned. Even the Mods thought they were spoilers. They deleted them.

So I'm still unhappy.

hey brian, I just went to eoj, and it rocks! I especialy like your right up! really funny. Now I know what the hell Friggy is! A couple of suggestions, get a new top header banner, I could barely read it, and change the background! keep up teh good work!
 
I think HL2 will ship with Championship Ricochet and Chess Master IX.
 
halflife2 isnt for the base multiplayer, looking back at halflife, about 1% of people who play halflife now have ever played TDM hl1.. reason, because halflife games are all about the mods.

however, im sure valve will come up with something new and interesting to attempt and increase our interest in multiplayer modes OTHER than modifications.

by the way, tdm and ctf arent mods, they're just gametypes.

Oh, hey, thanks. Didn't spot this before.

The banner is only temporary, and the page background should look okay once we change the frames to graphical versions. The contrast between them kinda ruins the effect at the moment.

I'm pretty sure they will make a Half-Life: Directors cut, with extra content, source coding for the original, new models, etc.
 
Hope it will at least have CTF, my favorite gametype. And something teambased maybe.. like assault mode, tho im not sure if that would fit in HL 2...
