the gimp is a good alternative to photoshop and its freeware

jasc paintshop pro is also very good, cheaper than photoshop

Photoshop & OpenCanvas (Great for brushing) are my favourite.

How about getting the trail of PS and then magically opening it? :cheese:

ArtRage is fun, but I can only make pictures that look like they were drawn by a 5 year old on it.
Ranging from stick men to a monkey, it's all terrible quality due to my lack of art skills, but it is a great program to play around with.
I suppose the program depends on what you want to do..
