hey guys..just wondering, in order to get good detail in half-life maps, larger textures maps do help, however, does anyone know the dpi that textures can have in HL2 which can definitely add more detail? 72? 150? thanks guys....appreciate the feedback.

You can scale textures in the original Hammer. Not that much though..don't know about HL2.

HL2 employs an amazing new DPI less technology that was pioneered by all games. DPI refers to print images, texture resolution is measured in Pixels, if you don't happen to know pixels or "picture elements" are the individual dots that make up an image. I'm pretty sure that texture resolution for HL2 supports textures at a resolution of 2048x2048 pixels, from that you could have a DPI of 1 and have a 2048x2048 inch image, or you could have a DPI of 100 and have a 20.28x20.28 inch image image. A 2048x2048 texture is pretty damned big, generally speaking I don't imagine many textures will pass 1024x1024 but perhaps some will. Anyway hope that helps.

Heh funny you should mention it there is a bug in some version of photoshop where there can be issues with different DPI's occasionally the image dimensions will become improperly stored. To counteract this you can change the DPI. Generally this happens with large resolution images, and it only matters if you are doing digital work with the image. Of course it only very rarely shows up and all it takes is a change in the DPI.
