I currently occasionally go down to 20 fps on a p4 2.4ghz 512rdram radeon 9700pro on ut2k3 (next gen unreal warfare tech) in intense battle (1024 by 768)

should source with maxed settings run better then UT2k3 with maxed settings

all at 1024 by 768

Well, it all depends. You shouldn't have drops on such a system, unless you run AA and alot of background programs.

Yeah, you should be smokin with those spex. Maybe something might be wrong...

eh yah wtf is wrong god this is buggin me real bad im not running ANYTHING in the backround ;( ;( ;( ;(

and ive done EVERYTHING and ANYTHING short of reformatting to try to fix it and I CANT reformat

this sux hard I have latest drivers for card

uhhh aa is app preference but I cant seem to turn it off for everything and ut2k3 doesent have aa chooser

That's seriously weird cause your PC's far better than mine but I can run UT2k3 at 1024X768 with most of the details turned up and run WinAmp in the background and only drop a few frames here and there when things get particularly hectic... Sorry, that's really unhelpful

I've got a similar system.

There are times things will drop that low in UT2K3 but they should be VERY few and far between. I find that the map thats situated on the volcano (not the CTF one, the DM map wich doesn't appear in the single player) is particularly hard on my FPS especially with lots of bots on it. Generally however it stays comfortably above 30 & that's maxed at 1600x1200 (without AA or filtering).

Source should run fine with everything maxed out on thaat sort of rig we're told.

Edit : Oddly I've found I don't get much in the way of extra performance by dropping the res. The code must be heavily tied to CPU as much as anything. Go figure.

plz tell me how to turn aa off on ut2k3 as I see its bugged for it

some other games give me trouble too and usually I cant adjust aa its odd

Very weird. This mightn't dio anything at all, but have you patched UT?

Did you by any chance have an Nvidia card installed before the 9700 Pro?

i really dont mean to sound stupid (which i know i will but i dont care) ... what is AA?

AA anti alaising..takes the jaggies away in lines drawed by your computer,if a graphics card draws a straight line it's an artifact that occurs..AA smooths that

CTf Magma that is..is indeed a heavy map..i run UT2003 on a gf2 gts and it works fine..some settings on normal, medium and very few high, but with reasonable eyecandy

UT2003 (second gen unreal engine) will run better than source

Source is better compared to the third gen unreal engine. there have been tech demos, but no games yet for the engine.

Source will run better, FLAT out. the unreal engine was kind of slopped together in my opinion, where as they only worked on it for like a year or 2 (probly not even that) as to the source engine, which has been worked on since 1998. source is made to be scaled down, so even if you cant run EVERYthing at max detail, i think it will run at a smooth 55 60 fps with a few things tweaked.

youll see.
