When you are talking to an associate or someone who knows your father, how should you refer to your dad when refering to him. Would you say "My dad has one of those", "My father has one of those", "mike, my father, has one of those", or "mike has one of those." It is a question that has been bothering me for a while now and I wonder if any of you have an answer.

Uh, there isn't a set answer. Choose at your own discretion.

I usualy say dad, sometimes father and occasionaly Tim.

Holder of the testicles and penis from which half of me was shot out of. Or HotTaPFWHomwSoo for short.

I bet Luke skywalker had that trouble;

Ah the death-star. Vader, Anakin, my Father, had one of those...

I am Dodds son of John son of John heir to the throne of 40 Clyde Road.

Anyway, "dad" works. Or, if that fails, "spawnmaster".

I say 'dad'. There's nothing wrong with saying he's your dad, and you don't have to ever change that.

Dad,
Father,
Whatever else you want.

Just nothing mean ;)

I have something really important to tell you son. *comes closer* Bla bla son...

I just feel somewhat childish when I talk about my dad to someone and refer to him as my dad.

My dad calls HIS dad, 'dad'. Don't feel childish.

If you want to feel less childish, maybe say Father? Means the same thing... but I guess it is a bit more mature sounding.

Pater.

If your father's associate thinks that you're being childish, he'll give you a nipple cripple.

I just say "dad"...What would be childish would be "Dada!" or "Daddy"

A nipple cripple? What is that... is that the UK equivilent of the titty twister?

The old boy.

The most me and the old boy spend time together is in the boozer having a few pints, and come to think of it I don't really say dad or any of the like.

My parental unit...

Or, as others have stated... Father.

"That guy... you know the one, that guy who fed me and raised me and kept me out of trouble all these years. The one who married my mom."

Then you use what they say when they try to fill in the blank... "Uhh, your dad?" "Your father?"

That one guy who raped my sister, almost killed my mom, and and shoved something up my butt when I was a kid had a car like that!

Male Parental Unit perhaps?

So politically correct. Lets not offend those male parental units by calling them fathers or dads ;)

Hehe.

I think Dad or Father would be just fine...but "Papa" (my Dad's preference) sounds like a frigging baby talking.

That's what I call my grandfather.

I call my dad joking sometimes, Daddio. "Heyo, Daddio!"
