i'm playing BF2, suddenly it freezes and the sounds starts to loop, then my computer shuts off. "Intresting", i muse. So i push the power button, no boot up screen, no post beep, no bios screen, not even a green light on the monitor? What did BF2 do?!

no i have a labtop. Does it make sense a power supply went? Cd/dvd roms spin up, maybe the harddrives don't then...all the fans turn on also...

Something simmilar happened to me before while I was playing Pacific Assault. It turned out that my slave hard drive died on me.

EDIT: It's working now? was that a question or a statement above? Oh well...this is all typed and if it's not fixed then here ya go.

Let it sit for a while then try it. BF2 isn't at fault here...well only at fault for putting strain on your comp.

Un plug and take everything out and put it back in, just to make sure. Reseeting often helps for no apparent reason.

Anyways, if it doesn't work after a while then we need to make sure your power switch didn't get fried, since this is easy if you know what your doing. Make sure the power supply is actually turned on, and the little red button is at the corect volts(depends where you live).

Grab a paper clip, find the spot on the mobo where the power switch is pluged into. Unplug the power switch and touch the paper clip on both pins that it was plugged into.

If that doesn't work then unplug EVERYTHING from the mobo. just the wires for now...IDE cables and any fans(except proessor fan). Also un plug the power from all of your CD drives and anything else. All you should have plugged in right now if the power to your mobo(24 pin and the 4 pin(even if it is optional) and the power switch. Un plug the front USBs and the other crap near the power switch.

If that doesn't work then take out the processor, RAM, vid card and anything else, leave the other 3 things plugged in(2 power for mobo, power switch).

If still nothing, time to substitute parts to see if something is damaged. Take an old power supply and try that on the mobo, un plug the current one(don't need to take it out) and see if the other PSU works on your mobo.

If it still doesn't then just for kicks try your PSU on another comp and hopefully it should work.

If it still doesn't work your mobo may be fried if it won't work at all(no light or activity whatsoever). You can continue to swap parts out and try in another comp if you can to make sure those aren't fried as well. I can pretty much guarantee nothing is damaged due to short circuit since you weren't doing anything inside the case yourself.

The most likely possibility at this point if nothing works is it overheated too far. make sure everything is cool, if it isn't then you haven't wauted long enough to try it again.
