I have 250 dollars ONLY and want to buy a new video card, at the moment im deciding between a Radeon 9800 and something from the nVidia FX range.

What should I choose?

:smoking: Since you mentioned Nvidia FX and since we all know the 9800 Pro pwnz any FX line of cards. You know the answer ;) .

I, as well as 8 other people atm concur. www.newegg.com has them for about 185 (woohoo price drop!) sapphire, powercolor or Built By ATI recommended.

I'd say go with nVidia because of the next version of their drivers.
i think the current release is 61.72, but i've seen people gettion as much as 15 more fps in the HL2 VST with the 66.00 beta drivers. I think the next release will be 70.xx so its about halfway there :D

The question is do you really want to have to run HL2 in DX8.1 on your brand new card, or DX9 in and still with more FPS?
The same issue plagues many other DX9 games with FX cards.

ATI will run HL2 better but a lot of games recomend Nvidia but ATI work almost as well/better than Nvidia on those games too.

Get 9800 all the way I have a Radeon 9600 XT Sapphire and i get around 40-60 fps in CS:S all highest settings

if ur cpu is below 2.6ghz....got for the fradeon 9600XT. The 9800pro has too many pipelines for a cpu under 2.8ghz (or amd equivelant). But dont worry, 9600XT kicks butt, and u save 50 dollars ;)
