Just wondering what the occasion could have been to have 5,064 people, on 03-10-2003 at 12:07 PM. Hehe just interested.

I WAS thinking HL2 release, but I remembered that it's an '05 game. I'm guessing the HL2 Source Code stealing.

What a day that must have been. Hell, I didn't even know about HL2 until mid '04. D:

not too long before the delay.. lol.. man those were some hard times. but good times at the forum!

yep, source code leak and hl2.net on CNN. I remember that day well. I remember seeing a single screenshot posted on these boards with a title like "new screenshot?" and people thought it was fake, and then soon afterwards mods started closing down threads and deleting pictures. It was really confusing until the details were finally laid bare. Man, that was a sad day.

I think a few bans were laid out too based on the beta screen / video posting :O

Some people may still believe the leak caused the delay, but the game was certainly delayed regardless.

Conspiricy theorists theorized the code was leaked on purpose (why would Valve have the Source Code of the future of their company connected to the Internet?) to cover the delay in a cloud of uncertainty.

Personally I don't believe it, but it's interesting.

How well did the server handle 3000+ people that day? I remember when HL2 slowed rage3D down to a crawl. Can't recall why so many were over there at the time though.

Personally I can't recall these forums ever being slowed down for any reason - but I really am not sure about that.

Hard to remember yesterday sometimes, but three and a half years ago? Gets tough, especially a small detail like that.

there we go

I can't believe I never posted in that thread.

I didn't post either...I was more of a lurker back then.

No reason to post in that thread anyways.

It's locked.

Time to call the local Necromancer.

Me too, I remember reading all the posts on this forum and thinking to myself, "What a crazy place."

I still think Valve lied to us with the whole AI in that one Video.

They did indeed. Most of it was scripted, what they "hoped" to achieve, but of course never did. Many companies do it.

of course, they said stuff like "we've coded the soldiers to do the coolest thing when they have a choice, like jump through windows, knock in doors, use items for cover" etc

I remember when I first finished HL2. The first thing I thought was "pff, abrupt" and the second was "wait, I didn't see a combine get impaled by a weird energy hydra in the sewer!"

Holy **** netters! hl2.net was on CNN!

But they do do that. But you never meet combine where there are doors/objects.
