I'm wanting to make a Mod for 'HL1'. Of course, with all SD Content included in the finished package.

So, before I got started on it - I figured I'd ask on here, what you guys would like to see in a mod, or things that you think would be cool. This can include puzzles, places, characters, sequences, etc... Suggestions, will help me out in making a mod not only to my liking - But the liking of the HL community.

Please note, this mod will be centered around the HL universe and the Black Mesa incident.

Chances are this won't ever be finished.

But if you do I'd be happy to hand over my old unused HL1 mod content.

Well, even if it doesn't happen - I'd still like to hear some thoughts of what I could add into it.

It must include... TEH GMAN!!!!!!!

Can anyone come up with some interesting puzzles or scenario's I could use in the mod?

(please keep in mind this will be developed with GoldSource).

You should make it so that we explore new, interesting parts of BM, not just some typical generic labs like in other mods. Also, it would be nice to revisit some areas from HL. And no Xen. Oh, and something I wanted to do in HL also, was to visit the hazard course after the invasion, it may be dumb, but I just wanted one part where I'd somehow pass through (part of) a destroyed version of the Hazard Course or something.

They already did that, in Opposing Force (if I remember right).

The problem with using HL 1 is that you're limited by the engine as to what kind of puzzles you can implement. I think HL2's physics lets you be more creative but if you think you can make it work don't let me stop you.
The types of puzzles should be related strongly to what your mod concept is. And I don't know that you know what that is, so I can't say I have a good suggestion.

Ideas:
Explore an area (or more areas) while a portal storm is happening - creatures teleporting in and out, random explosions, debris falling etc. Go nuts.

Other experiments that Black Mesa was running - bio weapons development?

A vehicle section where we don't have to care about driving - like a boat speeding away through canyons from BM, 'on rails' as it were, probably with someone else driving while choppers or APCs chase you and you shoot back.

Well I would'nt know that, since I didn't finish Op4.

Anyway, back to the mod, you should post at least a rough idea of the plot, who the player will be, etc.

actually, it was decay that did the hazard course again.

play as a vort slave going after freeman and otehr scientists

Eh, they did that already though in P.O.V. And I think there's someone else on this forum making another Mod like that already.

Ok, Here's a rough Idea of the story:

You're a security guard, slightly resembling that of 'Mr T'. You begin the game coming down an elevator, heading for your post. Suddenly theres what seems like an earth quake throughout the facility, and the shaking causes part of the Ceiling to fall down on top of you. Everything fades to black. You wake up an hour later - And then your mission becomes pretty obviouse to get the hell out of the facility before you end up like all the scientist corpses laying around.

(you also obtain a 'blue coloured H.E.V. suit. Muck like the one in AS.)

That's pretty much Blue shift. And a couple other mods are like that

Are you gonna include any new weapons?

Also, is the hev suit necessary? there wasn't one in Blue Shift was there?

Maybe I'm being very stupid here, but what is 'SD'?

Super Definition. Usually refers to the PS2 model pack.

Make the player a alien grunt.

Up the view height a bit, give the hornetgun a secondary melee bash, give the player alien sounds/footsteps and yellow blood and voila, you're ready to go.

^Would be interesting, I don't think it's been done before.

I want to give a different experience, but also keep it feeling like you're playing the original. So you have that same sort of feeling, being back in the H.E.V. suit. In blue shift Barney had the vest - I sorta wanted to vier away from that - Because then it would be pretty much Blue Shift all over again.

As for weapons... I might change the Crowbar. The rest of the weapons and Characters are all Super-Definition remakes of the originals - Right down to the Gibs, roaches and leeches. So instead of the HD MP4, you have an SD MP5. There are many new Zombie's, New Barney's (1 of which shoots an MP5 like a grunt), Female Barney's - New Grunts, Player models and more.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure it's been done... I played it a while back... It was pretty much just being able to use the Hornet gun for the whole game.

I've shyed away from the PS2 model pack models... There's a small number of PS2 versions - But most are extra skins for the already existing characters. The SD models I'll be using have been newly made.

Development has just started. However I'm going on Vacation till the end of January, so the Mod development will be delayed significantly till February. The name of the Mod is 'Zero-LifE'. Here are 2 screen shots below, for a small preview of what I've done to far. (NOTE: These previews are not depicted as being finished versions of these sections in the game.)

The H.E.V. suit texture will of course be edited later on.

Keep those suggestions coming. I want to make this mod as fun and enjoyable as I can. Where would you like to go? What sort of puzzles and combat would you like to engage in? Anything! Throw those suggestions out there.

^ Looks great so far.

I don't really know if there are any unexplored areas left after all these mods, but it would be nic to see something new, altho I can't really think of anything at the moment. As for combat, try to make it more "tactical", like don't make the combat situations just a matter of running and shooting UT style. Maybe it would be nice to modify the characteristics of the weapons for this?

Great Idea redruM. Black Mesa is a pretty big place. Massive. But I think it would be good to have a few different areas other then labs, storage areas and missile silos. Do you have any suggestions as to other areas the player could explore?

I like your suggestion about the tactical combat! :D. Giving the player limited amounts of ammo will enable them to use it and their combat skills more wisely... The threat becomes more real, and theres more of a challenge - Of course, While still allowing you to use various props as cover.

This is a better way of game play, Instead of giving the player tones of ammo and guns to shoot and waste - Thats no fun.

Port the opposingforce code into your mod, and put some race-x here and there :D

Dang... Didn't know that the name 'Zero-LifE' was taken by anything... :(.
Well it's not really, that pic is just one of those background jokes The Simpson's likes to do (this one is from the video game apparently).

If it would be possible, it would be great if you could make the mp5 a bit more accurate since it kinda pissed me off in hl1 that it was unsuitable for hitting anything farther than 20 meters.

As for places to explore, maybe you could add a residential area (with relaxation rooms etc), some experimental labs (over-used, I know, but always room for interesting stuff here), and maybe "old Black Mesa", an abandoned part of the facility.

Nice suggestion. I'm going to use that 'old Black Mesa idea', a place that's old and abandon would have many obsticals, not to mention great 'spookyness'

I'll see what I can do about the MP5. But it is a SMG, so it's sort of understandable that it might be a bit 'spit fiery'.

^ True but if you want to get really technical about the MP5s effective range is up to 100m

Keep those ideas coming. Mod development for 'Zer0-Life' has started back up again, and it's lookin pretty good so far.
