I thought I'd make a thread where people can give their ideas for what they'd want to change for Steam, since I'm the topic creator, I go first!

I'd like to see the ability to PICK versions for the game, I bought Space Empires IV and V over Steam, but a few times I've been unable to finish PBEM(Play By EMail) games with friends, because Steam forces me to autoupdate the games to the latest version when it comes out, which breaks the older savegames.

I know it might be a weird request but I would really like to see the ability to choose what version you want it to 'max' update to.

This could be useful for mods whom are sometimes not updated for the newest versions of their games and only work with older versions..

This maybe should go in the Steam forum. I know I just made a thread about Steam here, but I thought that it was generally enough about game publishing that it could go here.

The whole voice system is silly. Add Push to Talk/sound thresholds. Voice now is just stupid. I really don't feel like hearing everyones discussions with people...hell, I doubt people love hearing me argue with the roommates :p

I'd remove the ****ing games, they are in the way of Steam so ****ing much I boycotted it years ago.

Have Steam tell me the price of the game in my currency and including my tax- Not everyone lives in the USA and uses the Dollar. I'am surprised Valve have not implemented this, It's not like they don't know where we are located.

Optional updates for offline games- i want to be able to choose what updates to download.

Lower Resources- Steam is getting more and more a bit of a resource hog, not a problem now, but it would be nice for it to be lowered.

Not having to update before you can play or before you go into offline mode- not a big problem for me now, but it was when my Internet was messed up.

I don't know if it's just my computer/copy of steam, but I'd like them to fix the 'play offline mode'.. Sometimes (like 1/10) it works fine, but the other times I usually have to connect to the internet, turn on steam, then turn off my internet, and about 90% of the time there is another new freakin update to download..

Another thing is that I wish you could play games without running steam.. As Penguin said it's a resource hog, and those of us with lower end computers can't afford to run all this crap at once..

I also wish you can choose to download updates or not, that'd be good.

  • Ability to merge multiple personal accounts through a secure process.
  • Complete and exact stats for all Steam games viewable in one's Steam Community profile.
  • Voice chat in-game to have the option for voice-sensitive.
  • Gift duplicate Steam games.
  • Downloadable demos for all Steam-available games.
  • Option to make Steam Community profile private. (Said to be coming down the pipeline.)
  • Uncap maximum friends allowed.
  • Ability to play single player games offline, when in Offline Mode.

Point #1 might encourage the sale of Steam accounts. I don't see it happening.

  • To allow you to manage the order of the list of your games instead of it doing it numerically/alphabetically.
  • To stop erasing non-Steam products from the list after every update.
  • To allow you to add in files under tools and media through browsing in your computer.
  • To allow for a button to voice chat for teams only, so vital information isn't sent to the rival team(s).
  • To have the original menus with the animated logos and sounds for the original Half-Life games instead of the ugly monstrosities they've given us.
  • To add "Half-Life:" before Opposing Force in the list.
  • To implement a patch that fixes me always getting stuck or taking damage while on an elevator in the original Half-Life games...simply put better ports of their originals.
  • Have a option not to download custom sounds/images in ALL games! I have no idea how many times I have downloaded those Quake sound files. (Every time I download it says Quake but I don't remember ever hearing it playing the first two Quakes or their mods. I swear they originated in Unreal Tournament, but what's up with that? But anyway...they're annoying! I AM NOT INTERESTED IN HEARING HEADSHOT OR THE SOUND FROM A ****ING BEER COMMERICIAL, NOR DO I WANT TO WAIT SIX EXTRA MINUTES BECAUSE I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THEM! I just want to play the game!

Oh...and give us a report player abuse/suspected hacking feature! We can report them having offensive profiles, but what about what they do in game?

Couldn't agree more, my friend was playing TF2 with me and made the mistake speaking in her mic, being a girl on a server full of immature boys she was being hassled endlessly. Of course changing servers doesn't work cause they can follow because her damn profile is public and says what server she is in. Profiles need the option to be Private.

It's coming! Only a matter of time.

How about the ability to download and update mods? I originally thought that Steam was supposed to do that when Valve games separated form WON.

I would make it so that on a user's birthday, or on Christmas, they can choose to get any game thats costs $20 or less for free.

Lol, then i could make several accounts and say it's my birthday and get nearly every game for free.
