I just want to know what any of you would've done is this little situation. I just remembered this as it happened about 1-2 years ago.

One day at Uni I decided to go downtown with a mate to get something to eat. We went to Maccy D's and I got a couple of Burgers. We then sat on the benches just outside.

A little while later this bloke with a Women who clearly had a mental illness was walking passed. She was having a hissy fit just like a kid would when you don't buy them that toy they wanted. He then came up to me and asked me if I had 40p to buy her a chocolate bar or something. I then said "Sorry, I've got no change" even though I think I could've spared it. He then said "Could I have a bit of your burger?". I thought WTF? and just said "Sorry...". He then walked away. I guess I was a kind of smear remark as he most likely knew I had some change.

Afterwards I felt a bit guilty and thought I should've just gave him 40p. I know this sounds a bit pointless but would've you gave him the money? Most of the time you get people asking you for money just to save up for drugs/booze or whatever.

If i had 40p to spare, then yes i would have. If i didn't have any money, then i wouldn't of been able too.

But whether you give money to people in the street or not does not make you a bad person, as i normally don't anyway. I give money to charities that i know are going to spend that money on things i think it should be spent on, not booze or drugs.

I would of punched him and took his money. Then take a bite of the burger and say "Mmhmmm this is a tasty burger"

I dunno, prolly woulda given the money but what you did wasn't really wrong...

Wouldn't have given him anything.

Maybe i'm just a bad person, but years of dumbasses at school asking to 'borrow' some money have just conditioned me to never give anyone anything.

I wouldn't have given him the money, but the burger, yes.

Hey, thats Short Recoil's job!

I forgot to add that when he asked to take a bite of my burger he said he was only joking. :|

Bah, im surprised so many people think they 'should' have given him the money. Im all for being charitable, but unless the bloke looked like he should be selling the Big Issue or something, what more right did he have to the money than you?

My position is more clearly explained in this highly offensive song.

Nah, Short Recoil would've eaten him. With a ****load of tabasco sauce.

you should have traded a burger for a night with the handicap woman :naughty:

A bit less than 80c I think?

I wouldn't of. Mainly because there's this guy around town, who I KEEP SEEING, and he's the most ridiculously stereotypical chav ever. He's shorter than me (and I'm bloody short), cueball bald, strangely like a rat, and every time I see him, he gives me some ridiculous bullshit story and asks for a pound, or two pounds. Once he said he needed to buy a train ticket because he needed to get out of Brighton, away from the police. A few days later, I saw him again, and he asked for a pound.

In short, so much has this guy pissed me off that my answer to everybody is now: **** off, I'm not giving you any money.

Chav is a derogatory slang term currently in popular usage throughout England. It refers to a subculture negatively-stereotyped as being uneducated, uncultured and prone to antisocial or immoral behavior. The label is typically (although not exclusively) applied to teenagers and young adults of white working class or lower-middle class origin. A male chav is sometimes referred to as a chavster and a female as a chavette, although chav is typically used to refer to both sexes.
