first of all here r my specs
wimdows XP
2.53 Ghz P4
760mb DDR RAM
64mb Intergratd Intel Extreme Graphics
512/128 kbps ADSL bigpond internet connection

i keep getting the memory could not be read error for my computer when trying to play hl2 deathmatch but i fixed hl2 and css by writing stuff in the lauch propeties. I believe that if i get a better graphics card i will be able to play hl2 dm.

Could anyone please recomend a good graphics card for my system keeping in mind i've got a 2.53Ghz P4.
Im thinking of getting 128mb graphics card and only wanna spend about 250 to 300 australian dollars MAX. But im not sure if that'll be good enough even though hl2 works on med graphic settings with 64mb graphics card, with hardly any lagg.
Please could u suggest a graphics card fit for my system and tell me how much approx itll cost. (please note wat currency e.g australian, american etc)

THANK YOU!

I paid about €125 for my ATI Radeon 9600XT and it works like a dream.

Converted its AUS$211.49. Its pretty reasonable for the results.

if youve got integrated intel graphics, you'll have to first check that your motherboard even has an agp slot, cos if not youll have to get a new motherboard to install a gfx card that isnt onboard

You might be able to score an ATi 9800pro/XT at that price (not exactly sure how much that is in US$ or if hardware costs more there). You'll be able to play on high settings with 2xAA/2-4xAF. But in that price range, definitly go ATi. If you had enough for current gen, then its a toss up between ATi/Nvidia.

btw, this really is a question for the hardware forum.

I have a 9600XT 128MB and I run HL2 with 4xAA and 2xAF. No lag. Great card in my opinion. :)

That price range... a 9600 XT certainly IF your computer has an AGP slot. Also check that your power supply is at least 300 watt (I think that's the minimum power requirement), as I tried to run one on a 250 watt and it wasn't happening.

A 9600XT at the moment will probably set you back about $250 - $300 (aus). You might even be able to get one for a tiny bit less.

I wouldn't know how much this costs in Australian currency but you shoudl really look into the 6600gt. It amazing!
