I'd give the Radeon a shot - not 100% sure though - just noticed it's the "SE".... you migh tbe able to tweak or OC it slightly.

And make sure you get the tweaked "omega" drivers from guru3d.com, my system was really jittery on standard drivers and now runs the game v smoothly at 1024x768 with ALL the eye candy on - now that it's smooth and stable I'll clock the CPU back up to 10.5 x 400 (3000+ settings) and see if it'll handle 1280x1024.... doubt it'll take 1600x1200 though Shame really 'cos the game looks MINT at that res!

9600SE - THe 5500 is an extension of the 5200 series, which are the lowest-performance FX series cards around. Although the 9600SE is a cut-down version of the ex-midrange card, I would save up for that little bit longer to get a 9600 Pro/XT or just plain 9600. Thats if whatever I said is available etc.

EDIT= Looking at your sig, seems you have already bought the 5500 ah well
