Probably a while from now but it will turn computer gaming into something unimaginable.Originally posted by kidrock540
hmm wonder when we will be seeing those

the big question...
when do you think we will see actual 4D not some cheap 3d crap but i mean something similar to the matrix (not really but a simulation just like it) that looks feels and smells just like the real world
my guess...100-500 years

No way, that's probably within 50 years.. my guess would be 20 years at least, 50 at most (with a strong emphasis on 20)
Until then, go play those cheesy $10-a-pop virtual reality games where you have to wear that cheesy looking helmet lol

I saw a thing on the discovery channel about detecting neurological signals through fingers. They made a game with it (some crappy looking snowboarding game) where you didn't do anything but think to move the snowboard. Of course you had to train yourself to alter your brainwaves correctly, but just think about how much more control you could have than with a keyboard.

Maybe 20 years is a bit too optimistic, but I still think within 50 years, a holodeck type thing should be available (whether it's mainstream, or not)

I'm rather excited about that Israli optical DSP personally. That and either Longhorn or Marklar (if it ever surfaces)

sounds like it would be much more efficent Sidewinder

well without getting too technical, the computer runs in cycles (thats how we gauge mhz). The cpu is sysrouncous so every "node" runs a "process" every 1 second

All these next big things sound really cool. But the next big thing I'm looking forward to is a computer that works how its supposed to. What do you think, 100-500 years for that?

Actually, the nearest "next big thing" I'm looking forward to is the CS301 chip that promises to bring the calculation capabilities of supercomputers to PCs at an affordable price in the form of an expansion card.
Maybe these would benefit from PCI Express...
