So today my mom came home with 40 bottles of wine (she and someone else split 80 bottles), and I decided to try some different kinds (I think there are like 7-10 different kinds I've got). I just don't see what the big deal is..

The wine came from vineyards near my city, so it's fresh and all that crap.. What is the deal? Why do rich people like it so much?

Out of all the different kinds, I didn't even really taste any differences (the different kinds are like blueberry, strawberry, etc.). Now, I'm not really a drinker (only have been drunk once, not even that drunk, though), but I don't understand why people like it so much.. This is supposed to be "high-quality", too.. wth.

Maybe I should down a bottle (no one would even know I took one, anyways, there is so much), and see how drunk I get! Srsly, isn't that great.. I'll stick with Baileys. (stfu, I like the aftertaste)

Wine and Champain (sp?) is better tasting that beer IMO.

But I don't understand the deal with alcohol altogether, it generally tastes like crap.

Champaign

Well, I didn't taste it properly (I just poured a glass of each and drank them in one gulp), but still.. Didn't taste that good in a gulp.

It has richer flavours then juice or pop. Generally speaking, alcohol gives another dimension of flavour

My aunt is big into wine. I don't see the appeal, to tell you the truth. Same thing with coffee.

To me, drinking alcohol is like drinking black coffee, it just isn't that satisfying.

Although there was this interesting drink I once had, it was like... rum with a lemon slice and lavender leaves in it. It had a good taste when eating spicey indian food.

Still, It was only in a plastic cup, and I couldn't finish the whole thing.

Alcohol just isn't that great

I like the taste of wine better than beer but that's it really.
It's a nice thing to drink at formal gatherings or to drink with family and relatives around the holidays.

It's just that each drink is so unique and full of its own flavor. I find it hard to taste at first but once you read the bottle you know what to look out for and can taste its flavors.

It just takes a wile to get into drinking really, it can be very interesting.

Drink often complements food as well and helps to enhance and bring out flavors.

canadian wine? Quality? lol etc :)

I don't know about all the quality stuff, but yes it's from Niagara (southern Ontario) vineyards.

Eggnog > You

Yea, but drink too much and you get really f*cking sick, and eggnog tastes freaking HORRIBLE coming up..

Ohhhh god, eggnog is OKAY if you have ONE glass around x-mas time.

I drank a half gallon of eggnog in about 10 minutes.

I done and got sick.

Hear that? It's the sound of every wine connoisseur in the world facepalming at the same time :)

Wine gives me hangovers like nothing else, but I still don't say no to sharing a bottle with a nice lass every now and then. On a sofa, not a park bench, Dalamari. Before you say anything.

I, umm... "acquired" several bottles two days ago. Even when they were at the correct temperature, they still tasted horrible. Maybe wine just isn't my thing.

Urgh... got offered warm white wine once...

My girlfriends dad thought it was red (think someone had bought the wrong one, and the bottle looked identical)...

Not an experience I wish to repeat

I never understood what's so good abot wine either.

I prefer sweet drinks to any other sort of alcoholic beverage.

Not a fan of wine, but if you aren't a regular wine drinker then it is a good way to get drunk :D

It is glorified petrol, seriously if anything gets hyped up and given a pretty image people will buy it, just look whats on TV.

How can you say that? Wine != Petrol

Wine tastes nice :D

And I don't ever recall petrol being made out of grapes...

LOL, I noticed that too.

Dog--, wine is supposed to be aged, not fresh!

And at least for me and my wife, it was an acquired taste. Try starting off with whites, like Reisling - its fairly light and sweet and more often than not tastes a bit like apple juice with a bit of alcohol in it. If you like that, try something a little drier, like Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay.

For reds, I'd start with a Pinot Noir or Zinfandel (not to be confused with White Zinfandel, which is a white wine and is a pinkish color - it's what rednecks drink when they want to look sophisticated).

I never believed that "acquired taste" was a real thing, I always thought it was just a convenient excuse for people to explain away the reasons they liked gross shit.

But after a lot of experimentation, I can say that alcohol truly is an acquired taste. I love the taste of most of it now, and used to cringe when I even thought about drinking it

Because it looks more sophisticated than chugging a beer at the dinner table and it gets you drunk just the same.

Also have to piss less. That's always an upside. Just prepare to wish you'd never been born the next day if you've been drinking a lot of it.

A taste for alcohol can also be unacquired. I loved the stuff until I got piss drunk one night (remember my thread? :)), and now the smell of liquor makes me nauseous.

[edit] Although, I think I might be okay with wine, I haven't really had any aside from a bit last Christmas.

Lol, seriously is the average hl2.netter 13 or something? This thread is epic lulz

I'm very picky about what wines I like. I'd say the best wine for me is one that doesn't have the overly noticeable disgusting alcohol flavor that I often taste. Other than that, as long as it has a nice fruity taste it's good.

srsly

Can't walk into a topic about alcohol without people saying "wtf alcohol? tastes like pizz, man!". And it all smacks heavily of inexperience with it.

Totally. Sometimes i think i'm too old for this forum, I'm only in my 20s

I can take most drinks, but wine I've never understood.

Frankly I enjoy the taste of absinthe more than I enjoy wine. And it has nothing to do with expereince, I've drank lots of alcohol.

That's understandable. There are certainly alcoholic drinks I don't see any redeeming quality to. I was referring more to the general "Alcohol in general tastes bad" mentality. And usually the ages of the people who say such things don't allow having much experience with it.

Whiskey was something I used to find disgusting. But I love it now. I love its taste. I can't explain why really, and I certainly find the idea of drinking it in mass quantities to be unappealing. But it still tastes good to me. It just seems like a lot of people here write the whole thing off without ever approaching the point where they can actually judge the quality of it. I ain't saying it's universal or that everybody comes to enjoy alcohol. But most often this is the case.

Shit, I don't know anybody who grows up already liking the taste. Almost everybody who drinks it had to acquire it at some point. Same goes for a lot of other drugs. Any seasoned dope smoker can probably agree. The taste if marijuana is rarely pleasing at first. But after time, it grows on you. You really appreciate the taste of good bud.

I'm not a wine drinker, I prefer pretty much any drink over it.

Truth.

And thanks to smoking a fair amount of very smelly weed, I now come perilously close to enjoying the scent of skunks. :|

I'm probably gonna get called a girl for this, but I only like white wine. Red tastes like crap to me.
