What makes a game get choppy after a few minutes into the game?......I start a game, its not choppy at all, then no matter what, after a few minutes, it gets unplayable.
I seriously get like 5 FPS after a few minutes.....
These are my specs....

pentium 4
512 MB RAM
2.0 Ghz
80 GB
radeon 9600

the game ran FINE when I first played it....then, i reformatted a while ago and wanted to start playing it again, but obviously I cant.

I know its nothing to do with my specs, and I just installed norton antivirus so its nothing like adware.....so I have no idea.......

If anyone can give me any help, that would be great

thanks

After your reformat I assume you updated all your drivers etc?
Could your hl settings have reset to defaults without your knowing? (ie aa on for some reason etc)
And yea, while ur comp isnt pwn its more than enough to run hl decently.

i have all the latest drivers, although I keep hearing somethign about updating my chipset drivers which I have no idea what that means....but anyways.....I play with all the setting on the absolute LOWEST and without fail, choppy goodness.....Im wondering if I have to resort to reformating again and hoping all goes well.....

Chipset drivers : The drivers of your motherboard. Because your motherboard is hardware, the drivers are referred to as 'firmware'. Please ask a person that has updated firmware of a motherboard before for help, because if you screw up there, you can buy yourself a new one.

Also, have you defragmented? You can download a trial version of Diskeeper 9, a defragmentation program here. You can also download a 7.0 LITE version here.
Defragmenting is EXTREMELY important. A fragmented hard drive can make every computer bow to it's laggyness.
