What's up with my CD drive?

It gets power, it opens and closes, but it doesn't detect any cd that I put in it and also it doesn't show up in my computer. It started when I got a DVD drive, which I've taken out of my computer since then. CD drive still doesn't work though

did you plug the ide cable in? also check in the bios

Most common problem is that the belt drive is f*cked. The belt which re-positions the laser inside the drive.

I've personally had this problem.

Or it could be that motor that rotates the CD.

If you can't hear the CD/DVD rev up, its one of these two problems.

Sounds like you need to make sure its hooked up to your mobo :/

It's hooked up properly. The brand new DVD drive that I bought is having the same problem, I have no idea...I'm not even on my computer, because windows F'ed up and I need to repair it, but my cd drive doesn't work :|

maybe the master/slave configuration wasnt right. strange things happen when you do that.
