whats with the wierd comics on the main page?

Any amount of detective work on your part would of figured this one out pretty quickly.

Can we perhaps discuss the pros and cons of this without being flamed out of existence?

Pros:
- Yes, it's nice art
- Yes, it's funny
- Yes, it's an ingenious workaround to Sui's problem

Cons:
- While brilliant in concept, atm Sui's comics only announce a news update and fail to tell you what exactly the news is. It's like if I switched on the Beeb and the first news item was "Oh yeah something important happened in Lebanon today. We'd suggest you switch over to ITV or check Fox News to find out what."

- Because these newsposts are effectively just glorified redirects almost all of the 'discussion' has also been redirected to commenting on Sui's comics and not on the news comments. There's only so far 'discussion' can go if comments are focused on the comic and not the news it fails to deliver.

- I've seen Sulkdodds post in one of the news threads, so I know there's now a member of the team on hand to write something informative. At the moment the unbalanced view being put out is that the majority of HL2.net readers are satisfied with this new format, meaning there is a certain reluctance for other news posters to chime in with their own brand. Yes I find the comics amusing, but no in their current format I don't find them appropriate. Please don't make me (us?) resort to PHL for my (our?) news.

---

A workaround for this would be for Sui to actually incorporate the main news content into his comics in addition to any other humourous slants, which I don't think is an unreasonable request considering he was writing perfectly good newsposts before he lost his keyboard.

You're thinking too much. Stop it. :p

I like'em. It's something new and different.

I don't see any other site doing this. Oh and crispy, shut your god damn face.

Just because it's not being done elsewhere, it doesn't make it automatically brilliant. Originality for originality's sake does not guarantee any sort of worth. Are you saying if Valve made a game where you stand motionless in a field for hours on end yelling recipe ideas for mothballs and purple fez tassles you'd run out and buy it because it has a 'wacky', humourous and (above all else) original premise?

I don't dislike the concept, I dislike the fact that they don't tell the news properly. In fact, if it could be done well I think it should be kept (but not on sheer novelty value alone).

Notice that he manages 1 news post every 2 months with a keyboard, and 7 in 3 days without?

It's just becoming a farce scrolling down that main page and seeing them all. I would think this was a penny-arcade wannabe site if I hadn't visited before.

Ah yes, the "news". Oh, the "news" of "WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS LAWL HERE'S SOME UNSKINNED RENDERS/MODELS/MAPS IN PROGRESS!". How very ****ing important. Let's give up the charades and admit nobody even cares what's in the text, unless it's something like "We're releasing tomorrow!". People want images, or videos, or something digestable. Not some PR crap. Sui's doing you a favour by making your crap interesting.
