As many of you know, Gamespot was the only online magazine that didnt think Half-life was that good. More or less said it was like HL1 with better graphics and physics in a despective manner.
Now, maybe it's my bad english but... doesnt this quote from gamespot about the new HL video sounds like they are hurt with valve or something?:

"Once again, he promised those present that the now-infamous sequel to the legendary shooter would ship later in the year. Granted, this time around he didn't give an exact date, just saying "this summer."

ermm Now-infamous???? lol

The game is infamous now, what with the delay and source code theft.

It's also a bit odd that they mention the Counter-Strike source port, and even have video of it. But they make no mention at all of the new media (at least no mention that I saw). I'd agree that the overall tone of the article is a bit on the negative side.

I didn't think ill of gamespot's aritcle. They were blunt and honest about what they saw and how they felt about it, which is a valuable commoditiy in this industry of brown nosers and raving fnaboys parading as journalists. I don't see any reason for anyone to be upset over their preview.

infamous
adj.
1. Lacks of honor, credit and esteem.
2. Very bad and evil within its specie

Which one exactly would you apply to the game?

Exactly. Some people apparently only like the straightforwardness when it's a positive view.

They'll get it up eventually. I pay for gamespot, but I don't expect them to have stuff up right away. I use them more for their terrific organization and huge library of past media. They save EVERYTHING.

If Half-Life 2 is good, they will review it as such. I haven't found a bias there yet.

Im talking about the general feeling of the way they talk about it. If the game was bad then it's reasonable they say so, but with arguments like:"same kind of weapons"(man, they just played a couple of levels, did they expect to have all weapons??) or same gameplay(everyone knows that was one of the best points about the first so...why is now bad?).
Edit: Do you think valve lacks of honor or credit? What are we doing here then?

I didn't think it was that bad. As I keep saying: it was unconvinced. They felt like they hadn't seen or played enough to really judge, since it was all mostly stuff they'd seen before.

Oh, this is new. Yeah, they sound pretty pissy. They didn't comment on the new HL2 clips at all. And what exactly are they so bitter about a repeat showing at E3? Some games have been at E3 after E3, without people thinking that was some sin.

Geez, enough with the Valve-hate Gamespot, it's getting old. "Medium-hot"? What? Did he just cop out of saying 'luke-warm'? They're gonna look pretty stupid if HL2 takes best of show again.

Yeah I agree that eventually they'll get it up, but I think I'm correct in saying that the CS source video only came after the 20 minutes of new HL2 footage. And even if it that isn't the case, the new footage is certainly worth a mention at the very least. I mean, come on, 20 new minutes of footage and they choose to put up only the bit showing off a CS port, little odd don't you think? That article seems to purposely downplay HL2's E3 appearance (which was quite spectacular). Even the language they use sounds very, I don't know, tired, and even slightly sarcastic.

I posted a message to the GS editors on the GS Complete forums. I know that a number of the editors check that forum, and maybe they'll realize they have presented an uneven representation of the picture.

It is pretty dumb to simply ignore the amazing hl2 footage and then talk about the 1.5 minute CS facelift.

Last year was Valve's big moment in the spotlight. I can understand GS not wanting to go 'gah-gah' over a 're-unveiling' of HL2. Did Valve add some revolutionary new features to the game since last E3? No, they've just been working on it so that it will HOPEFULLY be released SOON. Just like George W. Bush once said,"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

it's understandable if a magazine wants to slate a game but calling the journalistic community brown nosers simply because they all agree on HL2 being amazing is ****ing ignorant and pisses me off no end. Inquistor you are always so goddman bitter, you aren't simply happy with constantly railing the game for reasons with no basis you also rail those who support it, get a frigging life and go elsewhere.

Spiffae, can you quote your message. I'd be interested just to get a sense of the 'chastisement' and its tone. :D

Let's face it, they are right in a sense, Valve was pumping false information till September 30th, even though they knew game will not make that date, they stick to that date till September 23rd, as Gamespot rightly put, it is deja vu again at E3, and no one knows when game will be released, summer release date is much vague then September 30th! ;)

They claim it was wishful thinking, not deception. I don't believe them entirely on that, and that seems a little too self-serving, but it's certainly possible that the situation snowballed out of their hands and expectations and was a lot more chaotic and less devious than them simply doing a big cover-up.

Gamespot is probably just trying to stand out from the crowd. With every other media outlet giving high praise to Half-Life 2, Gamespot is probably trying to carve their own niche by feigning indifference. Interestingly enough, it seems to be working.

Good job for still holding a grudge against Valve Gamespot, that will get you anywhere, welcome back to 2003...

Get over it, the game was delayed, the game appears for a second time at E3, but who gives a flying f*ck? The game looks amazing, that's the only thing counting, and despite was you think of the developer, the demonstration has a lot more right for attention than that 90 seconds of CS Source.

Wait until they review HL2 for a console. Then it will get rave reviews despite being the exact game.

People who defend Gamespot(I have nothing personal against it since i dont have to pay for it) Let's put it this way:
You pay them each month
Somehow they skip to give the main info about the main game demo(which you can read for free in many sites)
They give a 90 CS:S video(when you can get a 700mb HL2 in other site(free))
So as their costumer...Wouldnt you be really angry for that?
I dont think it's a strategy as someone said before. And if it is, better get another marketting director(one thing is giving yourself publicity and another very diferent is giving yourself BAD publicity)
Once the review is out what will happen:
1 they change completly what they said 2 months before(that wouldnt be very serious from a profesional magazine)
2 they lie and keep saying the game is not that good (their costumers will find out and they will lose credit)
3 the game is actually bad and they told the truth (for what we have seen will be unlikely to happen)

I agree on the fact that it's strange that they only mention the CS:S 90 seconds, and not the other new footage.

The style of writing is not that euphoric but a bit blunt and straight to the point as mentioned before.

But they have previewed new content (whether or not the same as in E3) 3 days ago, so that maybe the reason that they did not focus on that in the article of today.

I'm a paying customer and I d/l a 300 MB+ vid from gamespot with new footage and CS:S, so you don't hear me complaining. And they have a lot of archived content.

Sure they were late and eurogamer was really fast but you can't win them all.

And in general I don't have a problem with the reviews, AAMF I buy most games based on gamespot reviews (except HL2 hehe)

I don't really understand what all the fuss is about

its simple really. after the merger, IGN plays the part of the optimist, and gamespy plays the pessemist. that way they balance eachother out.

1 Gamespot made that pool. Why did I suspect Hl2 wouldnt be in the top 5?
2 Notice this:#1:Metal Gear Acid - plataform PSP
#2:Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - plataform PS2
#3:Halo 2 - plataform XBOX
#4:The Legend of Zelda - plataform GC
#5: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - plataform PS2
Did any Pc games make it to the E3?
Where is HL2, DOom3, STALKER,....?
If none of those can make it to the top 5 Im sure no other pc game will ever be able to do it lol

so you're saying they're biased towards consoles?

oh did S.T.A.L.K.E.R make an appearance yet? I couldnt find any info on it yesterday

btw is that it for HL2 in terms of news for E3?

all those rankings are based on site traffic, not the GS editor opinions or something.
its the pages the visitors to the site went to the most
