My specs, by early next year, will be-

Athlon 64 3000+
6600 GT
1 gig RAM
1mb net connection

When do you think I will need a new processor with the rest of that? Or should something else be on my agenda?

You will be fine for next 1 1/2 to 2 years for running this on high etc, after that you will be able to run games for many years. Absolutely no point upgrading in the next 6 months or so for sure.

That system is great, you won't have to upgrade that Athlon 64 for a while.

make sure you get a socket 939 amd 64 as it will be less of a pain to upgrade your CPU in the future...

I have the processor and motherboard already, the video card and RAM wants upgrading though. How do i find out if its socket 939?

EDIT According to CPU-Z my "package" is Socket 754.

That's fine, you dont need socket 939. By the time you're gonna upgrade the processor you'd want a new motherboard anyway.

I'm in the same boat, 6800 GT, A-64 3000+. When I do upgrade, which won't be for a good year, maybe two if I can hold out that long, I'll be heading over to S-939, unless I can afford the next best thing by that time.

If I were you I would wait until the release of Longhorn, because if you get a socket 939 board in the near future you'll have to upgrade again when Longhorn comes out because by then it will be time that DDR2, PCI-E and all the other new things become the standard. My advice to all A64 owners is to stick with socket 754 is they are using it and don't waste money on a socket 939 in a year then have to upgrade again when Longhorn comes out.

i knew someone would mention btx. im sorry, i may be alone in this opinion, but atx pwns btx. i dont like the style, nor the way theyre built.

Yes but if you dont have an Athlon 64 system and wish to purchase one socket 939 is the sanest choice.

Don't forget BTX mobos!

BTX sucks. I thought they weren't gonna use it cause it was so bad or because people liked ATX better.
