Isn't the HL2 forum for people who are actually fans of the original Half-Life and anticipate a even more exciting FPS game that will break the boundaries of gaming?

Then why are these annoying people coming in and interjecting their obviously blatant dumbazz remarks, indirectly saying "It's going to suck, admit it."

ARGH.

Yes, I needed a rant. I just spent $30 on Morrowind: GOTY and my crap-ass computer keeps CTD (crashing-to-the-desktop). Luckily my memory for the new comp will be here Monday and I can enjoy a brand new computer.

You should have gotten kotor. Its way better and I know because i own them both

Anyway Hl2 will own if/when its released

You're right. There seems to be a hidden path from Dumbville to HL2.net .

What if dumvill is HL2.net? Quick we need a secret forum that we can post in and not have morons come in.

Hmmm can we password a special thread and not give out the password?

Its because this is the largest HL2 site on the internet. Most morons will naturaly come here since its the easiest site to find, and because they will be able to maximize the spread damage of their stupidity.

The best thing to do is not argue with them but instead say something like "This is a 'fansite', so why are you even here?"

You gave the password out Now we will have to come up with another one. :)
Is there not a way we can make our own forum and somehow make them part of HL2.net? The elders need to unite. But its almost to late for that. :(

The world works like this : The masses are stupid ****s, the single person is relatively smart. The CS community is a bunch of hackers, campers , whining kids , the single CS player is quite good.
The HL2.net community is Dumbville, the single HL2.net user is a HL2 lover.

I'm not sure but this could be some kinda rule. Or not..

To continue, a mob is as smart as the dumbest person in it. The trouble with your ideas are, how do you define 'true fans' or 'elders'? A certain number of posts? Being here longer than a week? It's really hard to stop idiots joining up for a laugh and making fools of themselves. It happened in september (I know, I was one of those idiots), and it's happening again. I have already noticed delay threads cropping up. Anyone have any ideas?

mayb we should make a thred, clame its good and then all the morons will go there

Hmmmm, I like it, sounds kinda like flypaper. How about Moron-B-Gone, the all new repellant? Never venture onto the streets without it! :cheese:

we need a REAL ranking system, such as 600 posts and under, you get everything you get now, 601+ you get to enter the "Elder" forums which are basicly the same topics as we have now, but we all know eachother abit better cause youve posted so much!

I only had $30 to spend otherwise I'd have gotten KOTOR.

There should be a "minimum amount of time registered" requirement on top of the post count so that people won't be as likely to spam in order to get in.

i dunno about these exclusive forums. they'd only get populated by morons in the end anyway, then people would be demanding another even more exclusive forum. it could go on forever.

these forums are pretty good compared to how it was around sept 30th.....

That's a really good idea! But the thing is, there are lots of people that haven't spammed enough to get to 600 that have earned my respect (yeah as if that'd be an achievement) and are very interesting and fun to have conversations with, such as you or Jabberwock and etc.

I hope some of the bigshots have the same opinion about me and the likes.

Oh nos! The secret forum has been delayed! :D

Seriously though, the relative occurence of stupid people here is surprisingly low. Things are at their best when valve actually releases stuff. That way, people have something to talk about, or at least be interested in.
Heck, we tore apart every detail of the bink videos like rabid pirahna. there's nothing left to learn from them. We need something else to be intrested in, because the videos have been watched at least twice by everyone.

edit: I just realized: rewarding post counts => more spam. But then, getting into the secret no-stupid forum would be desirable, which means more spam etc, etc.
It's an endless loop!

HL2, when it comes out, should be the best game of all time, narrowly passing by Goldeneye of course.

Hehe... I've watched the videos way too much..

BTW, did anyone actually find the Easter Egg everyone used to talk about? Or was that just Gabes trick to keep us busy during the wait?

Perfect Dark was Goldeneye 2 IMO. Best console shooter I've ever played.

Everyone still anticipates HL2, it's just that we've been anticipating it for far longer than we technically should be. September 30th is so long ago...

The Die Hard HL2 fan is someone who has A) Played Half Life back in 1998 or 1999 B) Loved it C)Craped their pants when HL2 was revealed at E3.

I agree, I've been here every since...July? wow... and I have noticed many pointless posts. At least when HL2 is released and everynone that thought it sucked will come back here and tell us how awsome it is. The world is chaulk full of hipocrites

Going to the Far Cry forums yesterday made me appreciate how good these are...

I told you so!!!!!!! There is no escaping "The Prophecy"!!!!! We are all going to succumb to the theory of Internet intellectual osmosis!

The problem with making a post count to “elder” ranking thing is that people will just SPAM the hell out of the forums to get there. A time requirement is much, much more effective as Mullinator said.

You know, we all wanted a private forums for the old members since The Prophecy's was first introduced into the forum.

Ok I am done.

I like the private forum idea, but not for post count. I've been reading these forums for a long time, and then finally registered, and I don't post that often. So it would be unfair to me (and others like me) if it was based on post count.

Exclusive/private/elder forums are never a good idea. First problem is, what are the requirements? Post count? Rewards spammers. Reg date? People have been a guest user before they regged, like me. I just guest-ed around for a month before I joined. Some of the most active and intelligent users only joined a couple of months ago. Won't work either.
And if one would find a way to do it, it would create a breach in the community. "Oh you wouldn't get it, it's a private forum thing", "STFU noob you can't even get into the private forum", etc etc

Bad idea.

A forum only for hardcore hl2 fans would be a good thing but. Whos ginna pick the members of this special forum? And on what grounds? There are many people on this forum that should be in this special forum. And what about all those people that dont get picked? They are gonna get pissed. And they will probalby make hell.
And then the forums thats not "special" gonna fill up with junk.
Then hl2.net gonna be famous for junk?

A special forum for special people.
Why do we need this?
We are bound to have stupid people on any forum. Even in the "special" forum.
I love hl2.net and I come her everyday.
Why not leave it like it is?

simpy base it on postcount........ 500 or something.....and if anyone is acting stupid...they lose there "ubercooleliteforum" privelages...

why postcount? if you posted only crap 600 times there's no chance you will mature or be 1337ified by posting 600 moronic posts.. and why the separation/elite drive? so far moronic trollposts are not a problem? those will hl2 suck posts will die down eventually..

bling!

Which is why it'll probably never get done.

We're talking about people who come here just to argue about HL2 being crappy right? I really don't mind the way the forums are right now. It's either the insecure Doom3 (or whatever) fan or the pessimistic, negative, "my daddy beat me as a child" HL2 fan. The best solution seems to be to have some sort of pledge of loyalty to Valve.... I think the mods keep the messy bits to a minimum and I don't mind hearing some opposite view points on this forum instead of having to go to other forums and becoming what we all hate here to a group of different people.

It should not be done. Green Bunny is right. And if there was one, it should be accessable by application and approval by the mods.

A good idea would be to have a kind of "Audition" thread , where you ask for being permitted into the forum, and if you're a well-known member in the forum you just have to ask in the thread and you're in.. If you're a good forum member but not so widely known, the mod will send a PM or something like that and tell you to show some of your posts or something like that..

Sorry , bad idea.

Personally, I think it's a better idea than post count or register time, but it would mean a lot of extra work (not to mention power :) ) for the mods. More work for the mods means less time to spend cleaning up junk threads and weeding out HL2 haters. Back in september the mods were having to get rid of delay threads and people who hadn't read the rules round-the-clock. But they still did a pretty good job. I don't think these forums have ever reached the point where people want to leave to get away from idiots.

Ok, my idea. How about, when you register, you are FORCED to read the forum rules. Or make their computers read them out in a really whiny voice! No registering unless you've listened to the rules at least three times! Ummm, no. Wouldn't work. How about subliminal messaging?
