where are the aliens in hl2 ?

i havent seen many aliens in hl2 just a few headcrabs ant lions and those crappy designed vortigaunts ... are there really no more aliens around ? thats what i really liked at hl1, running through demolated complexes with all those aliens hanging around you and killing soldiers for u :D !! where did it leave :(

i have a guess ... well before hl2 was released they had already confirmed that there would be bullsquids and other stuff but nothing of it was in there .. not even the big blue tentacle thingy was in there .. and remember the e3 vids , some of the weapons which where shown there didnt make it into the game .. !
well i have the theory that they will put all that into the expansions :D well i for 1 will definetely buy all expansions !

the "aliens" (not sure which you're referring to) got nuked along with black mesa.. :p

I think I already explained this to you in your post that got locked… You know… the one with the text of the message was something like, “half life 2 is shit.”

Things get cut from games all the time. The “Tentacle thingy” was no fun according to valve so it got the boot…

Hl2 was not a rehash of Hl1. Most people consider that to be a good thing. Like any good project it’s evolving and changing.

Halo 2 was nothing more then Halo Again… that’s why it sucks… Hl2 was something new and better. That’s why it rocks.

The reason for all those missing aliens, weapons, levels that Valve show, promised, discribed one year ago. Is the lack of time, that's all.

Last year when the game should have been released, i think that just 1/4 was done, now till the 16 november the did the second 1/4. Now they have to do the half that is still not finished.

Do you remember that the game should have lasted 30 to 50 houres, but in fact it's only 15 today. We should have seen a level in the antarctic, one in a ship and did you noticed hoe the last part in the citadel was so easy and boring. Just a bunch of the same soldiers we already encoutered and the quick trip across the building suspended to a rail. I'm sure that you should have fight you way throug the citadel, but to do so we should have waited another year!!

People at Valve are very talented but i guess that the success and the money they earn from the first Half-Life has made them a bit lazy!!
Half-Life 2 is excellent but it is half-done, they concentrated on the engine, the development tools, the perfect physics and graphics.
So now we can expect that the real game will come soon!

I actually thought the riding on the rail part was pretty cool :naughty:

What happened to "pieces of Xen appearing on Earth"?

Dunno...lots of things have been changed i guess...i miss the bullsquid but i appreciate half life 2 for what it is, not what it could have been or had in...

Perhaps we were taking this quote too literally. This may simply have been an indication of the Xen wildlife like the headcrabs, Icthysaurs, bullsquids, barnacles and what have you being on earth in HL2. I think it also may have been a throughback to concepts about what should be in the wastelands (eg. Bits of Xen "Soil" appearing like in Opposing Force), but I don't think that's likely.

The absence of lots "Aliens" in HL2 makes a lot of sense really. In fact, the first problem with what you're saying, is that it's simply not true. 3 types of headcrab, 3 types of Zombie, Barnacles, Antlions, Antlion Guards, Striders, Dropships and Gunships are all aliens, without mentioning the others (at least 4 types) that we simply glimpse. It's all a matter of setting in the end. The City 17 chapters take place where it makes little sense to have lots of Aliens: It's all about the Transhuman vs Human struggle. The alien wildlife is kept away from all this, but there are distinct terriotories for them. Ravenholm is zombie town. The Highway and wastes are the land of the Antlions... The HL1 aliens that don't return, don't need to return. There are plenty of enemies anyway.

It's hard to imagine houndeyes and bullsquid surviving very long in this environment (you know, versus ant lions, combine, etc)... maybe the bullsquid.

They would easily survive in the wastelands, but you just dont see them

LOL You're joking, right?
It must really suck for Valve to work their arses off for five years on Half-Life 2, only to hear comments such as yours when they're finally done.

There was a lack in diversity of aliens. Seriously, lets be real hear. There are 3 different types of headcrabs, but you're going to call them 3 totally different aliens? As different as grunts, vortigaunts, and barnacles? That's what made HL1 aliens great. Variety. Random samples and pickings of aliens from Xen.

Even if they were random, easy to kill enemies, I'd help to the immersion. Or enemies that usually just get killed off by tougher ones. I remember they said "enemies like bullsquids attacking soldiers helps to easily immerse the player." Don't things feel more real when you see soldiers working together, and then one of them runs around and into a barnacle? Or when you come to the magnetic crane, and the soldiers are fighting other antlions? Gives them more of a life.

I just wanted more random, medium sized enemies like bullsquids, houndeyes, and stuff. plz.

Maybe they were killed off in the Seven Hour War but that'd suck.

Every single enemy in the game is either an alien or some sort of alien technology. Whee.

there are lots of aliens on HL2... though most of them where removed. and the Vortigaunts are your ally.

The Combine do a bloody good job at keeping the majority of the Alien fauna out of the cities. You only visit one area of wilderness - the coastline - which is packed with Antlions.
Houndeyes exist - at one point, a Vortigaunt chef is cutting one up on a plate in Black Mesa East.

I better get back to demolating things. It's absolutely astomblishing to see things ragdoll.

I like these ideas, maybe the aliens were a diversion for the combine to take over the world and create the ultimate communist dictatorship ala George Orwells 1984. Now they are trying to slowly rid of them.

Just my two pennies... I much rather fight the combines anyway, I love where the story headed (less sci-fi more imperialistic enemies). Very ballsy for Valve.

My point exactly...

Very sophisticated of Valve too if you ask me.

Yea i think there are plenty of different aliens in hl2. And by the way what is the one that you glimpse during the teleport that Lamar messes up? You get teleported into the ocean and it almost eats you.

It’s the water beast from the first Half Life. Has the same name in the model viewer. I just can’t remember it for the life of me. Ichthyosaur… something like that???
