...of city 17? Haven't seen any women exept for Alyx. Isn't that strange?
Is HL2 going to be another female-lacking game, as HL among others? :( No female scientists in that giant complex... hmm. No women in city 17. Hmm. Hmm.

Anybody have a theory? Are the males and females being seperated to keep the people in check? The male city 17 and the female city 21? Who knows...

In the tenements video there is a woman with her husband talking. Check again.

There are just as many female citizens as male citizens, and your forgetting mossman as a single charecter.

That was photoshoped wasnted it? i dont remember the girl looking out the window, she was on the couch in the next room over.

Come to think of it, that's pretty cool. In most games it's just a huge civilization of men.

There were some clips of that video in some trailer that showed a woman rather than a man.

Yea in the new tenements vid there is two, one in the first room gordon enters when they are looking out the window and another in a room he walks by as she says to her husband "what are we going to do?". There is also some more women that play a major role in the story like alyx and Im sure there is more scattered about in city-17.

No .. Its from the E32k4 summary Bink.

My theory is the E3-2k4 bink is from a later build than the tenements bink, or pehaps the citizens are random, the preload contains enough content to suggest that.

Also the Strider scenes from E2 2004, you can clearly hear female allies fighting along side you, the PC Gamer E3 2k4 summary and the video above you can see them mixed in with the male citizens.

You hear a female shout

"Lets get out of hear"

Right before Gordon is shot be the strider

one of the VERY FIRST people you see is female

"were you the only ones on that train?"

Nice... so there a few women in the game... good to know... can't believe I forgot about tenements

dont forget that hot chick that talks to gordon and the black doctor guy.. before alyx walks in.. you know the one im talking about right?

I'm afraid this has already been discussed before about female characters, and soldiers ( ) etc. Willing to bet there will be many female citizens but probably no female resistance fighters besides Alex.

meh.. whoops.. :F

EDIT: forum smileys are wank :D :E :) :(

In tenement's a woman peeks through the door at the start after you get to the stop of the stair's, and you see her run back as you turn to face the combine soldier's breaking in,, where does she go? in the E32k4 bink.

the other version (some german version) with that chick next to the guy looking out the window makes more sense, because that could of been her running away back to that window.

so it may be a later update on the scene we saw in the origional bink.

Woman: Were you the only ones on that train?
Woman: What are we going to do!?
Woman standing at window
Alyx Vance = Woman
Dr. Whatsherface = woman

edit: also you can hear women's voicer in the street fight scene.

assassins were the only women in HL1, weren't ? (except the holo girl in the training level and the off voice in the introduction).
But are there a lot of women in VALVE team ??

the reason for the lack of women in certain video games is to do with violence, in society it is still more acceptable to see a guy with his arms getting blown off or speared by a hydra, if that was a woman there would be uproar. Also can be seen in the fact that women are not allowed to fight in the army on the front lines.

sure, but in the case of an invasion like the one we will be living in hl2, even children can fight! i mean...every Man for himself? everyone has to fight...or else...be raped by the aliens..

Yes, but why is there still a man in the new Tenements-binks? They should have changed that, but, as you say, it may be random.

An uproar?... I really don't think so. But in a game, seeing some woman (that your character likes) get killed, would certainly cause a greater emotional response than seeing some dude get wacked... which would only be beneficial for the game experience.

No women fighting in the front line? That has most likely to do with certain countries depreciatory attitude towards women.

If a woman passes the tests.. why not?

I think the reasoning behind it is they say that sexual tensions might affect frontline performance and lower male morale. Men, as ‘protectors’, may also be less willing to advance forward over wounded and dead women or turn back to help them. A study also claimed that female recruits are more than twice as likely to suffer injury than when they were not expected to complete such a vigorous training programme as men. There are differences in women's bone size and muscle mass mean training causes 33-39% more stress on the female skeleton than the male and in a mixed platoon of recruits, the women tend to march at the men's longer stride, putting their bones and muscles under even more stress. It might also be easier to acheive and maintain cohesion in a single sex team. But I agree with you if a woman can pass the tests and be just as competant as a man when under the strain of combat then they have every right to be there. I don't agree with it however if women are brought into front line combat when they cannot do their job aswell as men and they are there as a statistic and have to be looked after by other recruits who should be doing their job. But I think it is important that gender barriers are broken down and the women in the armed forces can do the best job they are possibly able to do without facing discrimination if they can do a job on par with a man.

but why did they have to make the women look so ugly

They're living in a totalitarian, alien-run state where even their clothes are assigned to them. I don't think looking good is their primary concern.
