Where does HL:Uplink fit?

Hi Im new here. I wanted to know where in the Half Life timeline does the supercool Uplink demo fit? Does it happen between HL1 and HL2? Or is it not canon at all?

Uplink is just the first part of Half-Life. The train ride, putting on the suit, pushing the anomolous material into the laser'MA'beams, everything screwing up.

No. HL Uplink was a seperate demo-only level. And I too don't think it actually has any proper place in HL, it was just a seperate demo level that told it's own story

It was a demo that had those bits that i mentioned.

You can download Uplink here, never played it myself. It's a bit slow the mirror, but the demo is small too.

If you look on the model viewer, the sound files shows the voices of the barney and the scientist. It was labeled something like 6 or chapter 6.

Oh it just looked that way from the screenshots; you can actually see Gordon in BMRF...

Yeah, but you can only see them if you type "r_shadows 1" into the console. (Without quotes, of course.) They can also be enabled in Half-Life if you do a fresh install, and don't patch it.

Yeah, what eraser said.. I miss r_shadows, can't believe they hardcoded them out of HL. It's unfortunate, now they put blob shadows in? Gee.

Anyway, regarding third person, I just switched to it so I could gawk at the once great r_shadows that were in HL

This demo is the best demo ever. When I get the urge for HL1 I allways load this up. Has anyone discovered any secrets here? Like how to get into the room with the shotgun?

What the hell is wrong with them! I propose we start a petition to put them back in!

To get into the room with the shotgun you've got to hit the vending machine with the crowbar. Stand back, because it will explode twice then fall over. Next, turn the valve behind the vending machine to shut off the steam and crawl through the vent. It'll lead you up and around, then collapse through the ceiling of the shotgun room.

The names of the sound files indicate that Uplink was replaced by "Forget About Freeman"; presumably once you got past the gargantua you would be inside the Lambda Complex.
