Where is the Half-Life 2 CD-Key?

I'm sure this question has been asked, but after searching I haven't been able to find an answer. I'm trying to figure out where the CD-Key is located in the registry. I'd love to format my computer and install a linux partition, but I don't dare do so until I can find that little sleeve that my CD-Key came on, or find a way to locate it. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

you dont need the cd if you have already registered hl2 with steam. format, install steam, install the game, and it will download the updates cause the hl2 cd key is tied to YOUR steam account, as long as you dont make a new steam account, you should be fine.
