Where is the World Heading?

In terms of religious and societal progression, where do you see the world in one, two or three hundred years? Do you feel the days of self sacrifice in the name of god will still be common practice? Do you predict an overall lesser-sense of ambiguity in the future or do you believe that things will be even more fowled up than they are now. Im really interested in your thoughts so please elaborate!

Unless we buck up our ideas, I can't see there being that much of a human society left in the world.

Poverty, disease, war, crime, third world, overpopulation, pollution, corruption, greed etc.

The list goes on. Religion I care less and less about each day when you look at the bigger picture. A musing I've often had in more recent times.

I actually heard a theory which states the gap between the Rich and Poor will get exceedingly larger over the years. Eventually, in thousands of years they say the rich upper class citizens will be very tall, muscular and attractive while the lower class will be somewhat outcasts, small and ugly.

Well, given the current pattern, the nation-state will collapse and globalisation will take over completely. The middle east area will get worse thanks to oil tensions, islamic fundamentalism and terroism. The internet will play increasing importance. Robots will do house/garden work and possibly manual labour (farming, dustbins, constructoin etc.) nanotech will be used in surgery and construction, genetic engineering will save hundreds of lives. Traditional religons will die out as more exotic ones such as transhumanism, etc will take over.
And of course, the tehcnological singularity will come, and our world will change forever.

There are plenty of things I can see going bad... but I think we'll be fine.

I'm not saying it's going to be a smooth ride from here on out, but doomsday predictions have been going on for ages, yet we've still managed to survive. But that's not an excuse to rest easy. Our continued existence is owed to the diligent people throughout time that kept on fighting, and I hold a certain amount of trust in human ingenuity.

As long as we have people willing to fight for change, humanity will live on. And such people still exist. Of course, this assumes we don't get completely ****ed by a meteor or something. That would blow kinda hard.

will be over more quickly thanks to nuclear bombs that will destroy more quickly and kill more people in less time

I doubt machines will want to take over cuz problably there would be a AI limit in all machines,and if not them machines will eliminate us quickly,or maybe will use us as slaves,or maybe will create a hybrid of human machine creating a "perfect" society where we will be like ants since we will not have individual minds but a whole unqique uber mind distributed trough all living beings making it into one

I see religion starting to become less and less important in Western societies, although it will still be a very strong force in less developed areas. I see us eventually exhausting our natural resources, which will force us either to change to renewable resources or search for them on different planets (space travel will have improved as well by this time). Politically, I really don't see too much changing. I think in America our citizens will not have as much freedom as they once enjoyed, and that process has already begun.
