ok, i have a HDD just for stuff, and it was kinda full, so i bought a new one... i moved the stuff to my local, then moved it back to the other one once it was installed... and 7 gigs of free space came out of nowhere on my local!! i had subtracted it from the original and after i moved the back-up stuff back to my 2nd HDD.... there was an extra 7 gigs from the start.. and i didn't do anything... WTF?!?

 Ummm yeah...? Anyways something familiar happened to me before, my C drive capacity is 13 gigs... I used up about 10 gigs, so I was left with about 3 gigs. BAM! One day I had 7 gigs of free-space, nothing was missing either! Weird shit!

could be related to file slack, or simply a miscalculation of the free space(it does happen occasionaly, and chkdsk or scandisk usually fixes it)

I defrag every 6 months :|

I should really do that more often...

most likely causes; old recycled files, old restore points, old user accounts, internet cache, any of these might recently got deleted by you or the system, or
virtual memory is being adjusted by OS.

setup a schedule using task scheduler to defrag and antivirus about 1 time per month unless you do a lot of adding/deleting/moving files around, then once a week..
