Hey guys, I am new to Half-Life 2 and the whole source engine. That said, I have a hankering to make something or another with the SDK tools, but I have no idea how I would go about learning how to work with the SDK tools or how to import my own 3D models. I've had experience working with Maya and Lightwave before, but as of yet I haven't had any experience with importing or exporting 3D models and textures into games. If anyone knows of any good tutorials or guides that will get me started down this path of knowledge I would greatly appreciate it. I would hope to eventually build up the skills neccessary to make my own Counter-strike maps or maybe even help out with Half-Life 2 mods.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

I'm just getting started, too. I'm attempting to build a big catapult. That seems to have a lot of cool physics concepts all rolled up into one. I'd say, just pick a project and start working on it just to learn your way around hammer, to start off. After that, I have no idea yet.

I definately think the best place to start is making a couple maps to learn the basics of source-ness. Type "half life 2 video tutorials" into google and you'll find everything from making a basic room to creating your own weapons for in-game use, all shown visually in front of you. They are very helpful! :p
