i currently have Firefox, and am downloading Opera right now, i am wondering which one is better. if you think there are any other browsers that are better, you can mention them, but out of the two, which one should i use?

Internet Explorer :D Ive only ever tried Firefox. It sucked. So go with the other one.

well, i am posting this within Opera, and from what ive seen so far... Firefox is definately better. a whole lot of clutter in opera, and that ad in the corner...

my only complaint with Firefox is that it acts a little weird on some pages, some cases: on these forums, will sometimes come up with a popup saying this page contains no data, bungie.net is very slow, and the store on Adultswim.com acts a little weird. but those are the only problems ive encountered so far, and i would choose those over this ad any day ;)

EDIT: although i do like Opera's scroll better, but who cares about that :P

no popups here. Though it'll give a regular messages with page contains no data, but thats not firefox its the site thats briefly gone down that causes it to do that. Neat thing about FF though is it doesn't just go leave you with an empty page, can still view what you were viewing previously if it does that.

yea i dont get any popups in FF either, but in opera free version there is a permenate ad in the corner of the browser.

Never used Opera.
But I have Firefox and it ain't so bad. Rather nice. :)

I use a (cracked, gasp) full version of Opera, once you get used to the clutter then you realize the ingenuity of the layout and you can NEVER switch.

Tried to go to FireFox but just couldn't.

Opera's ok, I prefer firefox though, both beat IE though :P

I am soooo alone, 12 to 1.

I think firefox is probably a better browser, but I can't change. Sort of like how a trackball is a better pointing device but I can't change from a mouse :(

We fear change...

Opera is ok, FireFox is way better...i like that they both have the tab thing..

firefox is pretty good. I only use it at school right now. Opera has some good features and some bad. The tab feature is fantastic. I have 35/40 tabs right now. So nice and saves space on my taskbar. Plus you can save them and everything. You can close the window and it saves your state (plus lockups and such). popup bocking is ok. (BTW, I do know firefox has tabs aswell. Superficially I didn't like theirs as well, maybe they can be customized, I dunno)

Downsides to opera... website compatibility is not so great. quite a few sites have format & display probs, and some applets, plugins, menu features, don't work. Gmail doesn't work. sometimes page loading is a bit glitchy. i dislike the way it handles cookies and site-specific security settings. the toolbars are kinda lame, there isn't a google search bar that I know of. (Of course, firefox doesn't have the greatest google search either. about 40% of the time I use image search, and like the IE compatible google bar for that most def. I'm pretty sure opera has this not, I dunno firefox, since it's network loaded school comps, I couldn't load it anyway.)

IE sucks in most ways. It's reasonably reliable; lacks some feature I have since found invaluable; I like the way security is set up but it just doesn't seem to WORK.

I got numerous ActiveX exploits, hostile cookies, all sorts of junk. W/ no virus software (bad luck with it when I used), this is just lame, so I eschew a OS-integrated browser. Plus I don't trust MS. Bastards.

my $0.02

Firefox

Never heard of the other one.

I've only used Firefox once. Heard it was great, though. Never heard of Opera.

Thats because theres a load of checks it runs on websites to make sure they work.

Apparently if you code your own build with all the checks off then it'll be faster than IE.

That and as long as you can code you can create your own features O.o

Yeah I'll go FireFox

They are both good, but ill go with Firefox.

Well.... Opera is better in features and stuff that's built in, but it feels too chunky and bulky imo, and of course, it isn't free.

Interms of simplicity and ease of use, nothing has ever beaten Internet Explorer. Interms of security, Firefox definately, but then a lot of websites have problems with Firefox, so i use both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I have used Opera for a few days, just found it cluttered up but the browsing was fast.

Considering Mozilla as Firefox for advanced users, Opera is Mozilla for newbies. that is, Opera rocks.

Firefox with a bunch of plugins.

The only thing I've seen firefox do slower than IE is starting up, but that's because IE is all integrated into windows. As for the layout problems, that's 9 out of 10 times caused by lazy webdesigners who can't be arsed to code correct standards-compatible html and use all kinds of proprietary/insecure IE stuff instead.

Anyway, I found opera rather cluttered. I do have it installed to test site designs for compatibility though.

well Firefox really looks like the old crappy IE and its interface is really simple so I can`t work with it. And its also the slowest. Yeah, I can see the difference on my celeron 566. Opera is lightning fast, IE is OK but firefox is slow. And no its not my computer, its the same after lots of formats.
Overall my rating is:
Opera
Firefox

The_worst_browser_you_can_name
IE

Opera IMO has a very organised and practical interface which is one of the reasons I choose it over firefox.
