ATI Radeon 9200 128mb PCI or nVidia Geforce FX 5200 128 mb PCI?

Can you provide more details? link us to the sites you're looking at? Some 9200 have a 64bit interface, which is horrible, and some have 128bit interface.... the 5200 support Dx9, on paper at least.

Neither spend the extra money and get a 9600Pro or something ^_^

Well, Im talking about the one with 128bit interface

I dont have a AGP slot and I dont wanna buy a new motherboard

Check out that link. It compares the Radeon 9200 to the FX 5200 (and a bunch of other cards). You will see that the FX 5200 walks all over the 9200. Please note that is for the AGP version of the cards, the benchmarks should be perfectly valid though. A PCI graphics card will naturally be (a little bit) slower than an AGP card because of bandwith limitations.

Also note that the 9200 is a DX 8 card while the 5200 is a DX9 card. Several of the benchmarks were run at DX 9 for the 5200 and at DX 8 for the 9200.

PS - I should've posted that link when I was replying to your other thread. Sorry.

well then u r really limiting yourself as to what card you can buy. looks like you can only get a PCI slot card judging by the detail u've given us. they arent hard to come by, but my suggestion is that u save up for a new mobo, OR, wait until the new PCI cards come out of development, otherwise u'll b waisting your time tbh.

:naughty: I heard that there's a Geforce FX 5600 PCI out. Nvidia atleast owns in the PCI section.

lol where did you here that m8?

actually the spec states it's an AGP8X card, and it's supplied with a seperate PCI 'dongle' card which is probably for video input/output or something.

Too bad. But they do make a 5600 PCI, which is probably as good as that 5700 since it would've been an LE. If you're gonna stick with PCI, I'd say get the 5600 because it's dx9 and it can last you until maybe you get a new comp or want to upgrade.

you say that 5600 is dx9, but i find it doesnt run like it is. you get high dx8 benchmark scores, but utilizing the dx9...it plumets like a rocket flipped upside down. i upgraded my cpu and mobo because i thought i wasnt getting the full performace from the 5600, but running farcry, i can increase the detail a little, and see no performance difference tbh (high detail). i suggest ati even if i am a nvidia fan. a 9600 series card should do the trick..but do get the 5600 if you're on kind of a budget (say £60), or 5700 if youre lucky with prices.

My 5200 says it's dx9 but I don't think it even displays the dx9 shaders, the games don't look as good as they should even if I turn everything up all the way, especially on Halo and even Jedi Outcast seems to be missing something. I figured the 5600 would at least be able to display the shaders and stuff so if you turn it up all the way the game will looks as good as it's supposed to, even if it's to slow to play that way. Oh and I wouldn't dream of getting an Nvidia now unless it was a 6800, which I can't afford. I just recommended the 5600 because he doesn't want to get a new mobo with AGP.
