Which would be better suited to me?
(I have a P4 @ 2.8 G, and 1gig DRR RAM)

*bump*
Also, I think my pc in songle slot only. Does affect whether I could but one of the cards?

im no ATI fan, but this one is quite obvious as it has higher memory & fast clokc speeds..

Radeon X1600 PRO 512MB AGP (£128.06)

As long as the extra $13 isn't a problem then most definately the 1600.

Well the fast memory is somewhat misleading because it's 128-bit whereas the X800GTO has 256-bit memory. Some would say get the X800GTO because you might be able to unlock 4 more pipes and effectively make it an X800XL. But there's never any guarantees with that. I would get the X1600 Pro because of its SM 3.0 support.

the x800 will probably run faster, but you'll be thanking yourself for getting the SM3.0 card later.

my moniter only runs 1024 x 768 anyway, its pretty shite :p
I can't upgrade it, no money (im 14)

So would speed be better than the more complicated visual effects? I dont plan to get a lot of games this year, certainly not like UT 2007 level. Although that may change

Also: Upgrading from a 128 meg 9550 SE

128bit and 256bit isnt really a big deal anymore. i would rather have newer technology

I'd get the X1800GTO because 256bit memory bus.
Faster memory clock and 512MB memory probably won't be near as effective on only 128bit memory bus for the X1600pro.

Also from reviews the X1800 GTO should have 500Mhz memory and core speed. Is that GTO a lower version?

It's a bigger deal now than it was before...
Faster memory speeds, more memory. You need a big lane to transfer all that data. Small 128bit memory bus will bottleneck you even more with the amount of data coming out of memory with these games today.

its a X800GTO, not X1800.

Its only those two graphics cards I can buy, really - The only ones I know for sure will work - How much is an X1800GTO?

I cant really go over 120-130 pounds

Oh my mistake. Looking for an AGP card.

X800GTO is faster
X1600Pro supports SM3.0

I think I'll go with the X800 then
Cheers everyone

That is probably the better choice.
The SM3.0 support on the X1600pro is nice but if it isn't powerful enough to take advantage of it then there is no point.

I did hear that it can be OCed pretty well though. But it still only has a 128bit memory bus. And like bosox188 said, you can unlock 4 more pipelines on some X800GTO cards.

Just to mix it up, a 256MB X1600 Pro would probably be a fair bit cheaper, and not so pointless, and it has the rest of the benefits of being the newer card. There are 6800GS cards in that price range now if you look, they are crippled slightly but pretty quick.
