I'm curious as to which games magazines everyone else reads. Do you always trust the judgments of this magazine and how do you find there overall critics to good and bad games. After all its pointless reading a magazine with only one opinion 'good'.

My favorite magazine is EDGE as 99% of the time the reviews represent my own personal prefereance. The magazine is not afraid to point out even the slightest problems with games and is very critical with all games. It expains games in detail and points out flaws and problems with game dynamics. Although some of the reviews such as Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 where very disapointing, mainly down to there popularity of the game. I believe EDGE is the best magazine no only because of this, but the fact it has content on all games platforms and also in depth news about the games industry in general.

What do you think and why?

Sorry about the limited number of games magazines, but these are the primery magazines for PC news.

Edge, easily.

Games tm is worth checking out too, and the only other gaming publictaion i'd consider buying.

we dont get edge across the pond ...our gaming mags are of the fan-boy variety ..probably why I rarely buy them

PCGAMER is legendary. you can always trust what they say, and a 10gig dvd packed full of the latest games, patches, movies etc is just great.

PC GAMER

Been with them for a little over three-and-a-half years and I don't see myself cancelling my subscription anytime soon.

One of the best published PC games magazine I've ever laid my eyes upon - also the world's best sellling PC games magazine. :)

I was always confused why everyone bought PCGamer, I found its reviews to be boring and pritty simple. PCZone has better opinions and doesn't rate games well on the amount they sell unlike PCGamer. But then again I always found this magazine to simply just be the same as PCGamer but with a little better reviews.

GamerTM is actually wrote by the people who do EDGE I believe, I have never bought it. Whats the general different between it and EDGE?

Also, the good thing about EDGE is there is never a 100% conclussion that simply says buy it or not. They inform you about the game, how its played. How it works. How it reflects on others then you are left to make up your own mind. Rather than putting a big 98% or 91% at the end of the page with loads of images and bullet points at the end.

I've only purchased one gaming magazine in my lifetime and that was the PCGamer exclusive on Half-Life 2. I saw it while waiting at the checkout line in Shopper's Drug Mart and figured, what the hell.

That leaves me biased to PCGamer, but I've been hearing great things about EDGE, just too bad it isn't avaliable here.

pc gamer while better than the majority of console magazines still sucks ...I mean why are game mags so brainless? Most computer magazines are very well written, why are gaming magazines an exception to this rule?

It'd be fun to start an online game magazine. I was working with some guys to make something called ModZene but it randomly died, which pissed me off immensely.

The only PC mag I touch nowadays is PC Gamer. Call it a loyalty thing I guess.
This is back in the days of the C&C Red Alert Holiday Guides special and the 200 page break of Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. Voodoo's Anti-Aliasing was a godsend for freak Descent players. X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter was the greatest game of all time.
And not to forget the cover story of the Warcraft Adventure game.

Ok, so maybe not all of you know what I'm talking about...

pc gamer for me, i dunno about console mags..

I haven't bought a consumer level games magazine for years. I had like a 100 copies of PC Gamer though.

PCGamer hands down... awesome writers and they always tell me what popular games to buy while throwing in some old school shit.

I guess all of you have never read it, but I read PSM2 every month and I think it's a pretty good magazine overall.
Not 100% biased but of course they reviewed crap games and set high scores on them like Driv3r (90+ of 100 if I remember correctly) for an example. And I will never forgive them with the ridiculous hype they did with Killzone (I like Killzone though, it's a great game but imo it didn't really live up to the hype, thanks to the media). :(

But otherwise they are great, well-written reviews and the guys behind the magazine seem like a nice bunch of lads. ;)

Hmmm, its amazing to see how many people actually buy PCGamer, I supose if your just a PC fan then fair enough. But personally I'm an overall gamer. I play all genres all platforms (even arcade). I supose I just love my games :D I also like the sections in EDGE about games development and how the industry is doing. Along with all the latest news from the GDC and GDCE which just happened recently.

I'm just curious, but who here has actually read EDGE before? Is there anyone who completely hated it when they read it? Is there anyone who hated PCGamer when they read it?

PC Gamer UK, been gettin it for ages now, aboslutely love it! Just feel it is more subtle in its humour than PC Zone and much better lay out

Seconded - i love the humour in them and i agree with alot of their reviews and respect their previews. Love the dvd - not about cd version is it ev

Game Informer. It's console-focused, and since I get enough PC Game coverage online thats perfect for me.
I've been reading them forever, and they're generally smart, funny, and interesting. These days they also nab a lot of good exclusives and I generally agree with their reviews (and if I don't I usually agree with their 'second opinion' which they include with each review).

Hmmm, the 2nd opinion seems good. But isn't a review about allowing the reader to make up there own decision. Rather than giving them one, or two for that matter :D I supose I get what you mean. But seems weird.

Well they're pretty good on having informative reviews too, so I can't complain there. They're also not the hardest grading magazine, and I'm not the most critical player.

PCPowerPlay, an Australian mag.

Great writing, personality, trustworthy reveiws, and you get the overall feeling that they know what they're talking about and not just fanboys with a printer. Oh... and they do great captions.

Edge, because my Uni stocks them in the library and I don't have to buy them. :P
