Which Is The Best System For Gaming ?

I am thinking of selling my current cpu + mobo to my bro, because I want to upgrade to something newer and better
My two choice are either:

P4 3.0c + Canterwood motherboard

AMD Athlon64 2.2ghz + Motherboard

Which of these two will be best for HalfLife2, etc..

Well hard to say, I haven't seen an A64 review yet. Just a preview where they tested an oc'ed Opteron that should resemble A64 3200+ performance well. And it performed really well, sometimes 40% faster.
Only in non-game benchmarks (3dsmax, encoding and stuff) it was a bit slower than the Intel cpu's
