I ordered an evga 8800GT SSC (super superclocked) on the 29th of october ..still havent recieved it and the retailer has no clue when it will come in, in fact evga doest either ..the retailer will swap for this card which is the revision of the 8800gts 640mb with 112 sp just like the 8800GT ..or I could swap the SSC for this card, the 8800GT KO

both are about $10 cheaper than the SSC but the SSC outperforms them both except the 640mb GTS at high resolutions

so which one should I get? the SSC, I have no clue as to when they'll have it in stock, could be tommorrow or mid december ..the KO will be in stock in a few days and the 640mb is in stock now and would be in my hands by monday (the KO tuesday - friday) .....so which one should I get? should I just wait for the SSC swap to the KO or get the gts? the gts being dual slot forces me to change my northbridge heatsink as it would be in the way

suggestions?

Hmm sounds good either way but I'd go with the gts but that's just from the higher resolutions thing.

ya it just means I have to replace my current heatsink (that I replaced a month ago ) adding another $20 to the deal

I dunno man I think its better to wait the EVGA card is the bomb,I myself have a BFG8800.....Im salavating everytime I play Crysis or UT3

Mine is coming on Monday, I'm going for the BFG 8800GT OC2 (which is at 675mz), but you should go for the Zotac version which is at 700mhz in the box, and it apparently the best you can go for right now which is widely available.

If the GT runs really warm or is pretty loud would you be replacing the cooler on it and end up with a 2 slot cooler anyway?

probably not ..the card is already overclocked so I planned to leave it as is ..read a few forum posts of people saying the fan didnt spin fast enough and had to be turned up using rivatuner so sound might be an issue I guess

Glenn, cant find a Zotac dealer in canada ..might be some coming in the next few weeks ..the SSC is also at 700mhz

Alot of cards are having this 28% issue where the fan doesn't increase in speed in proportion to how hard it's having to work, but rivatuner does fix that (a tad irritating though)

Stern, does your card have to be at 700mhz OC? The Asus TOP version is at 700 mhz alongside the Zotac. The Leadtech GT Extreme is at 680mhz and the XFX XXX Alpha dog version is 670mhz. I went with the BFG OC2 at 675mhz because you also get lifetime warrenty and a great make too. All those cards are worth looking into if you want a high end 8800 GT.

the Asus was sold out almost immediately ..the xtx is on heavy backorder, the leadtech isnt sold here yet, and the BFG is as heavily allocated as the evga card :( ..every 8800gt is sold out ..even the OEM Galaxy 8800's were snapped up, and they only have a 1 yr warrenty

I like the evga because of lifetime warrenty, free quake wars and the step up program

the evga 8800gt KO has a clock speed of 675mhz ..I might just fold and get that :( ...damn this waiting is killing me, especially since I now have a reason as to why I need it sooner than later

That's still not a bad card at all, and you may be able to OC it to a stable level close to the SSC...but I wouldn't bother. If you really need a card now I'd go with it, it will still destroy everything out at the moment. I can't believe the stock problems in Canada at the moment, that is dire...

Everything has started coming through this week in the UK, mostly the Leadtek / Gainward / Points of View / PNY and Asus cards have filtered in slowly. Next week everything hits in huge bulk (BFG, XFX and Zotac etc) but the Evga aren't in sight at all, they are pretty well known for extreme incompetence.

ironically enough evga sold more than any other card ...ya I'm not that desparate to get a galaxy card ..not buying something that has only 1 yr warrenty

evga has said they should be up to speed by beginning of december

In order to keep the naming correct, the new 8800 GTS 640mb with 112 sps should be better than the 8800GT.

That way 8800GTS 640mb>8800GT

Except you're wrong. The new 8800GT is one hell of a bang for the buck card. It's better than the old 8800GTS (I said old becuase nVidia is coming out with a 'new' 8800GTS based on the G92 core), it's within spitting distance of the 8800GTX and with some overclocking within spitting distance of the 8800 Ultra.

The review says it all. That's why nobody can keep the damn things in stock. Keep faith on the 8800GT, stern!

update on the video card I purchase: just got an email saying evga had lower yeilds than expected so people are being advised to purchase another card instead of the evga 8800gt SSC ...**** you very much evga, thanks for making me wait for more than a month ...so I'm back to square one without a video card and no clue what to buy ..I'll have a second hard look at the 8800gts 112sp cuz I have a 22" monitor and the extra ram may come in handy ..but then there's the updated GTS that should be out Dec 11

I heard that Nvidia was just doing a "refresh" of the Geforce 8 series and after the "New" cards come out, the hierarchy will remain the same:

8800GT<8800GTS<8800GTX<8800Ultra

Same saming just all new cores (G92)

That is how I see Nvidia going about it.

Please correct me if I am wrong

He was just saying that the 8800GT still should be the one to buy because of performance/price. :p

It's here and it's awesome...
