While you all are playing HL2

I can't even begin the installation, I'm stuck trying to fix frickin' Windows Installer.

Ever since I acquired a virus it somehow messed up my Windows Installer, and now it says when I try to install HL2 that the Windows Installer is either not installed properly or your running your computer in safe mode, which I'm not. It's officially impossible to uninstall it, and I can't patch it because Service Pack 2 is installed, and I can't figure out how to reinstall that or get rid of Service Pack 2. I've tried the damn methods Microsoft Support has on their site but they didn't work.

any help would be AWESOME!

ok first off go to control panal add and remove programs, then at botom uninstall windows xp service pack. 2 then reboot system.
open start in the run type regedit look for local_hlkey steam path delet it. then click on your start again click on search find files & folders make sure c:/ drive is the search drive then type HL2 every folder that pops up delet it all then restart windows, Now you can try to reinstall the game.look ppl if you don't got networking with other computers or if you have a fire wall and a good security program like nortons or whatever then sp2 is a wast of time exp to all you gammers. If that does not work try windows repair or reformatting the HD. hope it helps i know it helped my son. :cheers: :cheers:

100% correct SP2 IS a BS piece of crap for stupid people who sholud be using MAC's anyways

Uninstalling service pack 2 leaves a lot of 'footprints' in your system, such as its severely crippled tcp/ip sys files. Use the system restore untility to wipe SP2's stink completely from your system (provided that information was not truncated or damaged by that little virus). If that doesn't work, I suggest a full reinstall of Windows.

NOOO SP2 == Death DO NOT INSTALL SP2 ON YOUR COMP, it's supposed to add security that you don't need, and it just messes up your PC BIG TIME, a couple of my friends installed it, now they blue screen every few times they load windows, they can't run any progs, and now they have to .........FORMAT...AHHHHH!!! oh well. REMEMBER SP2 == BAD FOR PC

Well I got rid of it because it was installed on a certain account on the computer, so I figured out I had to uninstall it using that account. It did fix my windows installer and now HL2 is installed and I have played it, it's friggin' AWESOME!

I did a fresh install of XP+SP2 and all is good.

i find it funny how everyone else has trouble with service pack 2, i have upgraded all the computers in the house and any i have serviced to service pack 2 and have yet to recieve a single problem.... but then again i am lucky i guess
