I got mine to 'work' but am one of many who is experiencing in game stutters. If I could fix that I would be a most satisfied consumer...

MY COPY DOES NTO WORK ... PERIOD ... i get no screens ... no menus ... nothing loads up ... i just get my desktop ... i dont even get anything in the view process window ... i get nothing ... even after 8 re-installs of the game

After quite a while of trying around and two reinstalls I've got it working. The problem on my side seemed to be a corrupt disc since I could't read the content on my dvd-read drive and on my dvd-recorder it started to stutter around until it finally proceeded.
Steam also gave me a headache but thats mainly because the servers are being overrun.
After that I could play the game (though not long since my girlfriend came over).

GGRRR... corrupt disk ... well if loads of people are having the problem ... and corrupt disk is the problem ... valves gunna get a lot of problems ... because most game shops in the UK wont take the game back unless it faulty ... and that could mean many returns,....

1 install. 5 - 6 hours while steam wouldn't respond. Activated late last night (whoohooo!). Played through, no problems (graphical, sound or gameplay). Its a fantastic game.

no, does not work for me. i have HL2 (CE) retail and when i insert the dvd, my drive reads it just fine. it automatically brings up the "install hl2 screen" etc. when you insert the dvd, then it loads fine, and my cd key has been approved, and its been registered, AND ive uninstalled and re installed HL2 AND Steam 5 times each, and every single time i try to run the game, i get a "No Disc Present/Inserted" error, EVERY SINGLE TIME, and i have attempted the fix on valves forums where you are supposed to exit steam, open steam in your programs folder, and delete the .blob file, and then restart steam and let it update..........STILL DOESNT WORK, i am without hope at this point and dont really know what to do .....the thing that drives me the most insane is that it ACTUALLY KNOWS THE DISC IS IN THERE, IT READS IT FINE, then when its game time, it seems to have NO IDEA where the disc is.

Nope no work here. All I get is that old authenticate original disc time limit warning. Lovely. :-(

Well i think, i will say this for everyone... ITS A MASS PRODUCED GAME GIVE THEM A ****ING BREAK! lol. When i went and i got my copy from eb games i installed the game and realized that my copy didnt come with a cdkey..lol. So i went back to eb exchanged a copy and went back home to register. Besides that it works amazginly well on my comp. Just be patient u guys.. i know it may seem liek on the day of half-life 2's release , your screaming why me!? It was to be expected that their were gonna be a couple of dud copies.

I got it to work.I put the cd in my drive and then i started installing 2 times i got that error about some stupid file is corrput.There was a clicking noise coming from my drive so i put it in a differnt one and it worked fine.Took forever to unlock files from steam but all worth it

I got in registered "early" yesterday.

I managed to get it working at my friend's house, it took around an hour to unlock the files (i bought the dvd CE) and was stuck right into it for two straight hours. it lagged a little bit at the start, but it smoothed right out a few mins into the game. i got no Q crosshair errors or sound stuttering errors. i think i was getting a decent 40fps all the time.
my mate has an amd 2 ghz (i think) nvidia ti 4200 128mb 8xagp, and onboard sound i believe.

Your computer may not be the BEST but it sure as hell is ONE of the best.
I've got HL2 to run fine. Only thing was that Steam took 45 minutes to unlock the files (on the 16th, too ) but it's been very good from then on. Haven't had any technical problems, only ingame (when I passed the hoverboat and did half the course on foot, then was forced to use noclip because of toxic waste)

have had absolutely no problems. steam install went smoothly, pre-loading went smoothly a week or 2 before the release. at the release, the unlocking went smoothly. all gameplay has gone smoothly with very few minor bugs. i feel bad for everyone on this forum and steampowered forums who are having so many problems. i must say though, that i haven't had a single one, and this game kicks ass

I have reinstalled 4 times one of which was about 1 hour ago, and I still get no further than the HL2 loading screen where it crashes.
It is unfair that you can't take the game back it you can't get it to work.

not working, stuck on 5 bars on the loading screen for the first level, just will not go on from there. As for the guy saying calm down everyone, i wish i was in his position where all was well, and im sure i speak for everyone with problems with the game.

I can't get mine to work either. I get as far as the blurry city loading scene and then it crashes to a white screen. The only thing I can do then is hold the power button until my pc turns off.
Shuttle AV40, P4 1.6, 512 mb, Geforce4 ti4200(66.93 drivers), Audigy, and I'm pissed! Everyday I log onto this forum, steampowered.net, and check the update news feature for the game expecting some sort of offical acknowlegment of this problem from Valve. And each day I grow more frustrated.

I managed to get mine to work finally. This is a list of all the things I did but I can't say for sure which was the clincher...:
* Updated Steam and re-validated my files (as per the new update release by Valve)
* Installed New Sound Card Drivers for my SB Live! WDM card
* Installed the Omega Drivers for my Radeon 9600xt
* Changed my AGP thingy to 256mb instead of 128mb
* Turned off my Firewall and my Anti-Virus
* Ran the game on 1024x768
It works fine now with maybe the occasional pop and the stuttering returns slightly when the action heats up....otherwise, this really IS the best FPS EVER!!
