...maker of DVDs which I can make video burns of? I've tried Memorex and Sony and didn't get good results. A guy I was talking to at work said 'Tanyon Yo' or something like that are one of the best in the world. But I don't want to have to wait a week just for DVDs to come in the mail. So are there any alternatives you guys have used and they worked well. It seems with Memorex I either get one really good 50 pk of DVDs or one lousy one where 80% of the disks burn properly and thats a waste of time

that was really dumb. anyone can go and google something. i'm asking this community what Disk you like the most, the one thats the most reliable. I go online and 100 million people say different things and I have no clue who they are

So instead you walk into the real world building that is halflife2.net and ask all your closest friends and relatives which disk you should buy, and we all suggest the same exact thing.

Anyways, google says this: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

I've started using TDK, not had any problems so far :p

I just go to target and buy whatever brand. It doesn't really matter.
:l

I've never had a screwed up burn or a disc that couldn't be read in anything I've tried... So I usually just go with whatever is the cheapest at the local store.

Ignoring what is the best in the world... different discs work better with different drives. So what works for some may not work perfect with another. And brands don't usually get their discs from the same manufacturer or plant which use different dyes etc. (one reason Taiyo yuden is regarded well because they use a good dye)

So unless you want to get into the technical research of what plant makes good discs (e.g. Verbatim that says made in Taiwan and not China). Just stick with what works for your burner.

Buy media rated for slow burn speed. Like 2 or 4x discs. But don't buy discs that say 1-16x and try to burn them at 4x because you are trying to do the "slow burn" thing. The dyes dry at different speeds and a disc rated fast won't dry best when burnt slow. Slow discs burned too fast. If you are stuck with discs you previously bought and they are 16x maybe burn at 8x but don't go as low as 4x with them.

Indeed, I've got different discs from the same manufacturer. Were I had all successful burns, then bought some more from the same brand, same type, but they looked different, and about half of the discs failed.

The brand I've had the most luck with was Verbatim, and TDK at first, but the brands I've had the worst luck with were Memorex and HP, and now TDK as well, now their discs are different.

I like Verbatim. I've never had problems using Verbatim media since the 80's and I can't say the same for any other brand. I've also always liked Maxell, but they don't seem to be prominent these days.

But different drive manufacturers recommend different brands and types (DVD+R / DVD-R) so that's important.

I think the consensus is that Verbatim are the best locally for me. I may give them a whirl but it sucks they don't sell them any closer than 15 miles from my house.

Expanding on what I said about different drives and discs working together, I think it is more likely that some drives just are better about reading discs with errors on them.
