not necessarily your influence, just someone whose greatness you look up to.

put websites too if ya feel like it.

mine is Feng Zhu, master concept artist and robot-designer extraordinare. :farmer:
he is also very successful!
visit www.artbyfeng.com to see all the awsomeness! :rolling:

Robots rule! :p

OMG same here that is freaky.

Also i love the work by Roy Lichenstein.

No-one. I don't look at art, I just draw it
But if anyone, it would be TDE :D

I'd have to say the following are my "art hero's"/have had the most influence on me

H. R. Giger - Inspired me since I was very little, spent most of my life so far perfecting his technique. God of surrealism and the only living member of the great surrealists.

Craig Mullins - Learnt a lot from Craig on how to paint quick concepts, don't get a lot of chance to put what I learnt into any work right now.

Rodney Matthews - influenced my alien worlds and understanding of nature, this guy absolutely rocks and just talking to him on the phone is an experience.

Roger Dean - Old family friend, was years before I appreciated this fact lol. Great bloke, very funny, learnt logo design from him aswell as strange and unique Architectural designs.

Melvyn Grant - learnt abstract images, strange creatures and how to see the normal look alien

Peter Jones - learnt various styles of ship design and strange worlds/creatures

Syd Mead - A god, nuff said.

Chris Foss - Amazing ship designs, same as peter jones

Boris Vallejo - Everything I know about painting the human body I got from him, his figures are amazing.

Maria van Bruggen - Not so much a hero, but a friend and her work is adorable, very creative, she's also very fast

And my closest friend/muse, who influences and inspires everything I do.

Has to be TDE...hes just too good. Its like he takes photo's!! and claims it as work :P, his pieces are 1337.

If photo's existed of some of the things I've painted. I'll be very scared indeed *shudders and finds a bomb shelter to hide in until the scary monsters go away*

Lol. I wouldn't be, I might go say hi and hope they rip off my head
But yeah, TDE, you're my "idol" :D

I like the explosion one, or a sunset. But they're not too impressive. They're good for concepts, but it kind've looks like he spent little time on them

*goes to look cause he doesn't recognise the name...*

wtf Druckles, how can you say that about a homeworld concept artist!?? He's got a great style and all of HW was beautifully designed. You need shooting, like right now :p

Yes, how many times have I already told you that? :hmph:

I said, they're great for concepts. But I personally wouldn't get inspiration off them. I phrased it wrong

Zdzislaw Beksinski

http://www.beksinski.pl/

the guy is a pure genius, not to mention he is an architect:p

I first saw his works about 15 years ago and he continues to inspire me ever since. his paintings, lifestyle and openmindedness

...and there are few others:
-Francis Bacon (man this guy kicks some serious ass)
-Rodney Matthews
-Boris Vallejo
-Grzegorz Rosinski (the guy who is drawing 'Thorgal' comic books)
-Jan Saudek (a photographer, another genius - http://www.saudek.com/)
-........

yeah, especially the 'menu' thingy

but the best thing 'bout that site is the gallery

took me a while to find the menu :p the way it follows the mouse, wow that is some skills

I started to comprise a list of artists who had a heroic influence on me, but then decided that wasn't really on-topic. Instead I decided to really examine the artists who have influenced me and pick one whose stuff inspired me in the way an iconic superhero would... and I narrowed it down to this guy:

Mark Michetz

I doubt anyone outside of Belgium has ever heard of him (I fell in love with his work when our family was stationed there my Junior and Senior years of highschool).

He painted a portraid of a character from his samurai epic "Kogaratsu" that I caught a glipse of on sale at the Brussels comic book museum giftshop, that to this day still is one of my most treasured images of all time (sadly I only see it in memory now, as it was destroyed some years ago during a move).

The print in question was an oversized poster, of an exquisitely beautiful Japanese woman, standing on a bridge examining a maple leaf with a forlorn expression on her face.

Michetz ability to render massive detail in remarkably few strokes is breathtaking. I always felt that the piece reminded me of what the old Japanese masters did with such simple strokes, yet it was less "naive" in the sense of perspective and proportion. Imagine if you would a sumi-e or yukio-e painting, whose real desire in life was to be an illustration, and you'd have the style of Michetz work.

I think no single artist, no single painting has molded me more as an artist, and a person. I must confess that the woman in that painting became the benchmark of beauty for me personally. You can see elements of her in everything I draw to this day, not intentionally, but because my artistic spirit was so consumed by that poster for so long.

I literally could stare at it for hours. In fact I positioned it at the foot of my bed and for years she was the last thing I'd see going to bed, an the first thing I'd see when I awoke.

I even had a rather realistic dream once where she invited me into the painting with her, and gave me a tour of the artisticly rendered world on the otherside, I cried when I awoke.

That was such a forced and pre-planned attempt to be "artistic" that I've seen in some time.

Sorry but it was :(

Does that make you feel bigger?

The Dark Elf said:
No, just very dissapointed that you felt you had to do that ;(

Whatever.

That's an amazingly self-righteous posture you're assuming.; Talking down to me like I'm your artistic paduan learner.

Why should I care if you are dissapointed in me?

He does have a point. Your post sounded very, well, I suppose some might say "Hollywood". You just seem like a big walking cliche.

But then they have to come from somewhere right?...

Exactly, and his personal insult replies don't help. If he was the artistic type he made out to be, he'd not be getting so upset over it and resorting to such tactics. Sad really :(

and theres no better place than Hollywood!! the home of people who ahve a right to red carpets and christams in a can!

/ Breaks into song

Did I miss something here? I didn't insult anyone.

Let's check the instant replay:

Dubu makes a post about a rather moving piece of artwork that is a big I mean BIG part of his life.

Elf chimes in with an amazingly condescending remark calling Dubu a fake. (er go, unecessarily insulting)

Dubu points this out, with and admittedly pithy retort. So let me try again:

I'm honestly curious, What do you get out of it? Why was it so important to you to put me down, after an innocuous post, especially when I've done nothing to earn malice from you in my entire time here on the forums?

M.C. Escher

http://www.mcescher.com/

his work is truly amazing. one has to have a 4d imagination to come up with such ideas and the precission and patience of a watch-maker to convert them into visible art. I really love his drawings and graphics, they are most inspiring to me.
