Didn't Valve say something about two groups in HL2, one that was wrong and one that was very wrong, and everyone thought they were referring to the scientists method of dealing with the combine and Barney's group's method of dealing with the combine? Well what happened to that? It was obvious that the scientists group and Barney's group were the same, which makes the only real groups in the game the resistance, Breen's group and the metrocops, and the Overwatch and the Combine (and those two might be considered the same). And it's not like they even had anything planned to dealing with the Combine. You rescue Eli, and by luck happen to pretty much take out Nova Prospeckt while you're at it. Then you rescue Alyx, and take out the citadel while you're at it.

So it seems to me that whoever is wrong and very wrong is incredibly vague (if this plot-twist was even left in the game, but to be honest I think they took it out) and whatever it's supposed to deal with, it's not about getting rid of the combine, 'cuz you don't here about any specific plans to deal with them throughout the game.

If I had to guess I'd say Breen's little plan for humanity might be considered the 'very wrong' thing (assuming he actually believed in it, it's hard to tell), but then I couldn't even guess who the other wrong group was, since no other groups really show an alternative plan for humanity, other than get rid of Breen.

I think:

Wrong: Breen. His methods are bad, but he makes sure humanity lives on.

Very wrong: Gordon and the resistance fighters, destroying the main Citadel may severly piss off the Combine and seal humanity's fate.

Wow. I didn't think of that at all. You could be right.

Maybe the g-man is wrong and breen very wrong or the other way round. We dont really know what the g-man is up to atm and what your job really is.

The resistance thing could be the very wrong thing but you have taken out the portal for the combine. There was all that stuff that you heard in the game about combine having problems with teleporting or somin. once there here they cant get back or somin.

Breen doesnt really help humanity. He tells people to accept the reproduction supression thingy the combine have in place and also comes up with some bullshit story to make people follow it. If humans cant reproduce then there doomed.

I would say Breen and Eli. They both want to save humanity, they're just thinking on different wavelengths.

hate to be a party pooper but maybe this belongs in the spoiler forums?

Keep in mind that if the
Citadel really was distroyed (Huge teleportation explosion) That could have a good chance of distroying earth. Do you guys realize how tall the Citadel was? Or even how deep it went into the ground? How about the fact that it was eating away the city?

City 17 is screwed for certain.
I'm predicting that in the end of Half Life 3, Gordon causes the Earth's destruction. He's been doing a pretty danged good job of it thus far.
Can you guys name one thing he's done that really helps the human race?

Crikey, you kids really need some help with your homework.

Breen and the humans who collaborate with the Combine are wrong. The Combine itself (the combined alien force that destroys planets) are very wrong.

No, the citadel wasn't that big. Think about it, it reached into the sky but at the top of the citadel it was just above the city and it wasn't that far in the earth. It's just in one city, in one part of a country, in one part of the world. It's absolutely minute compared to earths size.

How do you know there aren't more of those citadels? From what I heard there was more then just one city, but I may be mistaken.

there are big towers like that in every city, they teliported into every city in the world all at once, and took over, they are basically "home bases" for the combine, and factories for striders and gunships... but the C17 one was the main one, which housed the massive teliporter required to bring new towers into the earth dimension

"that's why i have decided to make my home in the citadel so thoughtfully provided by our benefactors"

sounds like 1 citadel to me, you are right about multiple cities though, one guy mentions just coming from city 14

Nope, I remember the quote specifically refers to two scientists who are thinking differently.

It depends on your own opinion (at this point). But no matter what, one party IS wrong, and the other very wrong

Breen may have enslaved humanity.. and been in it also for personal power, but without him the Combine may have killed off our race.

The rebels see Breen as a traitor to humanity.. but as said earlier, they'd be dead without him. But I know, I for one would rather be dead and have fought for my freedom than to be enslaved.

This story is gripping. I know a movie couldn't do justice to it, but I certainly hope Laidlaw puts this into book form after all the games are out for us to enjoy.

In a preview of the Prima book, there is a part of the script visible, an old one, however Eli clearly states that after the resonance cascade, Citadels began to appear in all major cities.

http://www.primagames.com/strategy/book/inside/6534/

This may have changed, but it doesn't make much sense that there is only one, maybe this is the largest, but it's not the only one. Because it's essentially a weapon (able to spew out huge armies), and a harvesting machine.

But I'm pretty sure there is a source in the game itself that says there are more.

yes, I was dissapointed by the lack of this plot twist, valve clearly said that one was the group of scientists led by kleiner and barney, and that the other was led by vance and mossman. plus that conversation that never happened in the game with alyx saying to kleiner "we should have listened to my father" I think valve made some serious changes to hl2 between 2003 and 2004. After all, didnt they say they would be starting out on a ship in 2003?

Yea the game changed from that time indeed.

In that scene you mentioned, it almost sounded like eli may have died...

However, that is also the scene where combine burst in on there lab/the scene where gordon is "starring" at her.

On the Citadel note, i think there are several citadels across the planet, that being the main one. Did anyone notice at the end of the game, when chasing breen or somewhere right around there, you see the combines home world on the monitor, and it appears to be a city made completly of citadels....tons of em..

i could be wrong but i swear i saw that

yes exactly. there are many cities with numerical identification which have been taken over by the Combine. At the very first level, if you observe the train departures, you'll see that they all go to some "city". It says like C16, C14, C11, C15 (and there's no C17 since you're in it).

'The rebels see Breen as a traitor to humanity.. but as said earlier, they'd be dead without him.'
So you think the French political figures that collaborated with the Nazis were right?

and i don't remember anywhere in the game hearing that the other cities had citadels. sure there are people who say they came from other cities...probably a more toned-down version of the citadel...and definitely a combine.

and combine is always used as a noun...not as in combining things together...cause the other uses of the word combine always refer to unity and and merging things. from the evidence we have so far, that's not what the hl2 combine is up to.

"combine" says it all....a right now on earth a combine is something farmers use to harvest crops...the bottom portion of the citadel is clearly eating up the city...harvesting it for raw materials, some of which are used to produce striders, gunships, etc. and the rest go to the combine world or something.

all the pods that have humans in them...they're probably harvesting people's intelligence or something...sorta like the riddler in the batman movie...maybe they harvest organic material from humans...or something matrix-style.
