just curious to see how many of you are using Windows Vista..
vote in the poll and feel free to add comments about your experience with the OS

I just recently made the jump from XP to Vista earlier this month with my new laptop. I'm using Vista Home Premium and I'm liking some of the new additions, while I could live without others. It's going to take awhile for me get used to the feel of Vista and adapt to the dumbed-down(ness). So far, I've liked XP over this OS, but that's only because I've used XP for so long.

Still using XP.

I had a chance to try Vista a while back, though. It's kind of nice, I must admit, but the UAC bugged me. Thankfully it's easy to turn off. Everytime it would ask for consent to do something, the screen would flicker, and I would think the entire computer had just crashed.

Things like buttons, text, and title bars seem to get larger with each subsequent release of Windows. Look at how tiny the X button was in Windows 98. Then XP. And then Vista.

Though, most of that is just aesthetic preference, which can be tweaked, any how. I'll be switching to Vista when I get my new computer, because I want the DirectX10 capabilities. Most likely the Ultimate.

I using Vista Ultimate and i don't think i could go back to XP i got so used to vista. It's a bit annoying loads of things don't work on it yet and it can be slow on the most basic tasks.

I bought vista the day of release on my 2yr old system, upgraded to a new system 2 months ago, and haven't had a single problem vista, ever.

Depends on your system, if it's 64 bit hardware, it will run x64 better than x86, and if it's 32 bit hardware, it will only run x86. I can only say that x64 vista is running pwntastic compared to my x32 XP that I had previously.

Cool. Wasn't sure if there was much software out yet taking advantage of it yet.

I'm using Vista 32-Bit, and it's alright.
I've had a few compability problems with Vista, all of which were fixed.
UAC is turned off for sure.
Oh, and System Shock 2 runs fine in Windowed Mode with D3DWindower, which on the SS2 forums, apparently everyone had trouble with. (I didn't even have to change any of the Japanese settings, it just ran perfectly and beautifuly)
Need I ask for more?

i still dont like vista much still needs more software support and drivers out of beta stage.

Yeah, only thing I can say I need is better nvidia drivers. Everything else runs light years faster.

any major issues playing current games on Vista?

Vista isn't very awesome. I'm going to hold off until they fix some of the major problems with games and make most of the new games Vista only.
(long time). Vista shouldn't be used with low-end computers.. I've seen the crappiness myself.

that is hot, the card that I want, the 8800gts is the card that does better hahahaha.

Yeah, its performance in Vista is a little better than in XP. But that changes when you view the OpenGL benchmarks (Quake 4) on the next page.

Wait, that's the 8800gtX for the Q4 thing. The gts still does better.

Still on XP. Don't plan to switch over any time soon.

I have an additional liscense for Vista Home Premium (32bit). I installed it and tried to play Halo 2 but it was very slow. Often times it took 10sec to open the start menu on the desktop. While I absolutely love Vista, it runs poorly. As soon as they release the SP1 and it speeds up, I'm switching over again. Until then I'm letting that $210 piece of paper collect dust. It's a shame too because I have a 8800GTX and I'm buying Bioshock. :dozey: *Oh it was not buggy either. All my hardware was recognized by Vista with new drivers. It's just slow.

Is your cpu 64 bit (if it's dual core, it probably is)? If so, that explains why.

Waiting for a new comp afore a get me some Vista action. In the mean time, I'll just get a vista skin and pretend. I love Windowblinds...

Back when I had my main computer I was running Vista for about 2 months. Really nice, just about everything worked amazing.

All my games except Kotor worked(cuz of securom)(and yes System Shock 2 worked perfectly with no tweaking).

Vista is a very solid OS. Worth the money over XP? Not sure. However it is better than XP once you turn off UAC. Some people get scared away from Vista due to lack of knowledge. For instance, Vista really doesn't use all that much memory compared to XP. However it preloads your most used programs into memory so when you do use them, they load up quicker. What if a game needs this memory? Vista will give this memory up to any application that needs it. Thereby Vista is in fact better at using Ram to it's full potential rather than let it sit idling compared to XP.

The only problem with Vista is some driver support, however most of it is pretty good.

It's funny everyone mentions turning off UAC. Isn't that like one of the reasons Vista has better security?
Did a search and got this too.

But I bet I would totally hate UAC with all the pop-ups too.

How would that explain anything if he ran the 32bit OS? It's the 64bit software/driver aspect that makes things slower because they are not very devolved. Nothing regarding hardware.

I'll be getting Vista soon when I get me one of those new 9-series cards. (If they're any good :p )

They're supposed to be a lot more powerful than the GTX and less expensive with dx10.1 support. It's too good to be true so in all likelyhood it's not true.

We can only hope.

Vista on my laptop, don't care about games on that
XP on my PC, know it works a-ok with everything :)

Vista. It's nice.

Runs Steam and all games I have on there.

It still has Paint though and I have to wonder why.
