I would buy a 754, but i also want dual channel ddr. Anybody know if the 939 processors will go down in price?

Sooner or later, you have to remember the socket came out not too long ago.

August some time probably.

But dont expect them to go down by much.

What are you using your PC for? Dual channel is only beneficial in some circumstances.

It's gonna be for games.. I'm going to get an x600 xt when it's released (pci x16). The 754 is going to be for value shoppers.

Socket 939 is expensive because there is no shipping Intel part that competes with the 3500+, 3800+, and FX53.
There are only shipping P4 models that run at 3.4Ghz.

Dual Channel is factored into the Model number.
You mean you don't want a CPU with 1MB L2 cache? hehe
3500+ is Dual channel but only 512KB L2 Cache which runs at the same 2.2GHz as the 3400+ with 1MB L2 cache and single channel memory.
Socket 754 vs Socket 939

Athlon 64 'Newcastle' and "Clawhammer' models on Socket 754 are far from value.
Unless you plan to upgrade just the CPU in the distant future and not both CPU/Motherboard then don't let that get in the way.

The X600XT is faster than a 9600XT AGP card and it would be about the speed of the 9800 AGP card. Benchmarks (Keep in mind that they are running on different platforms as well.)
You will need a PCI-Express slot for that which Nvidia's nForce 4 chipset for AMD64 CPUs (Socket 754,939,940) won't be here until well into Fall.

OoOoOo...I better get a job soon! :D

I'm half thinking of goign to intel so that I can have PCI express...

You want to switch to Intel for PCI Express with this kind of performance?
6800 Ultra AGP and 6800 Ultra PCIE benchmarked btw

The funny thing is that one of the reasons AMD switched to 939 was so that they could lower the prices for the the regular consumer while keeping a high price for their operatons. The FX and the operatons were so similar in ways that if they dropped the prices on the FX while it was still socket 940 many companies may have just bought the FX instead of the operaton.
I will se if i can find the link to that though because I know their is more to it than that.

You mean Opteron? hehe
The prices on Opteron's are pretty low for how fast they are. The only hitch is the memory type.

Ya my bad I never really paid attention to how it was written.
But I found the link to and old post where I mentioned what I did above but I cant find the link to the sight it was referenced off.

I just bought a 3800+... But what motherboard do you think would be better, ASUS or ABIT? I'm talking about same chipset, just the ABIT has a few less features (not as good onboard sound, etc). My friend refuses to buy ABIT because he insists the ASUS is better. The Abit is also in stock and the Asus is not. Here is a link comparing the two.

Can't see the link. Any link to newegg that has any 'search' information cannot be directly linked. :\
Both manfactures are great. I would not have any issues with buying an Abit board if the Asus was out of stock. If there is nothing you were counting on that the Asus had which the Abit didn't then I don't think it would matter.

Abit boards seem to have further settings that an extreme OCer would like. That is their plus.
Asus boards just seem stable and dependable to me. They are usually very feature rich as well.
IMO Asus, Abit, and MSI are very good brands. I've had some issues with other manufactures in customers systems.
