Why do i kill vortgaun in Hl1 and ally them in hl2? this makes 0 sense unless theres bad vortigaun and good vortigaun pls respond.

o hai

vortigaunt b4 = mind controlled slaves and vortigaunt nao = freed slaves by gordon and now they liek.

in half life one, they were enslaved by the Nihilanth. but you killed him, so they're no longer serving him. in half life 2 they're you're allies because Eli made peace with them, or something like that XD...

I'm sorry but your sig pisses me the **** off. It's AN advisor AN AN AN AN, change it pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaase.

Vortigaunts were enslaved by Nihilanth, which was controlled by Combine. You see they had those attachments on them in HL1. Then Freeman freed them as they like to say in HL2.

Also the Alien Grunts in HL1 were most likely Vortigaunt/Combine hybrids, then they moved to do the Combine Soldiers.

One thing I think HL2 vorts have lacked is a certain... animosity, or resentment for Freeman. Doesn't need to be overplayed or brought to fore, but aside from a single line regarding those you killed in Black Mesa, they're a surprisingly chummy bunch. Sure, they were trying to kill you (under duress) and maybe they're "above" all that vengeful emotion crap. And yeah, you inadvertently freed them from enslavement. But it feels like a link is missing somewhere.

Meh. I've always been disappointed in their transition from HL1 to the sequel. I keep waiting for their high-pitched "Die!" shriek to pop out, but no. Nothing ever comes. Just this "glum gla glabbity glum" bullshit. =\

Abs, it would be as if the oppressed Soviet people complained about their liberators that they killed a few hundred of them while liberating.

It's not just their liberation in particular though. I just don't like their shift in nature.

Old vorts I imagine would have displayed at least a hint of bitterness. Instead they've all turned into dirty hippies.

The only thing I'll concede is that they've magically turned into total ass-kickers since.

It will have to do, I guess.

Yeh but they were facing Gordon in Black Mesa, not Antlions that can be downed with two shotgun slugs.

2 shotgun slugs is still a lot to me.

The amount of idiots that just blindly play through games without actually paying attention to what's going on, and the story being told never ceases to amaze me. Then they have to ask the most basic questions to understand the game they've just played.

I've even seen one moron post that he'd just completed Max Payne - and then asked "So like, was Max a cop or something?". Groan.

Well bane, you will fit well within my ranks, but seriously, it's a legitimate question.

The only way you'd find out about this is if you endlessly pressed your use key repeatedly to cycle through the vortigaunts' cryptic comments.

The game never frames it as an obvious or major revelation.

Or just using your head a bit.

There are a LOT of things the game, or any game, or any movie, or any piece of literature that never directly tells you, that you should be able to assume or figure out.

And I'd argue that Half-Life 2's narrative overdid it, at least up until Episode 2.

It was easy for me to piece together, but then I also read extensively into media outside the game, and because I am the kind of player who will explore every nook and cranny for scrumptious details. But not every player is like me. Alien Slaves were never referred to as such in the original game, and so their relationship with Nihilanth can only naturally be murky to a number of players. The consequences of Nihilanth's death may have been well known to me, but that's only because I read up on Valve interviews and e-mails. You'd be hard pressed to find many in-game sources that inform the player similarly. For example, the portal storms could have been an unfortunate coincidence for all I knew. The point is that it's a valid question to ask. Although it could have been easily answered with the forum search function.

Incoming "OH U WANT 2 B SPOONFED" jibber jabber.

It seems that vortigaunts are enjoying killing other aliens and they say:"For the Freeman".

No, he was a douche in another thread after his steam account was banned cause he abused steam support.
He also had his backup account banned.
The thread that got him banned was closed though. Just look through his posts and you'll find it.
