Why does it take two years to load HL2?

I have HL2 and HL2: 1 and I'm annoyed that it takes my machine about 2 years to start the game.

Any suggestions to expedite the process?

I have a PIV 2 Ghz, GeForce 6800 GFX 256 VRAM, 1 GB RAM, 450 PSU, 80 GB HD (7200 RPM).

Go to Steam > My Games > Right-Click on Half-Life 2 > Properties > Set launch options, then type "-console" (without the citation marks) in there. Now the backround won't load fully, which shortens the time hl2 takes to start.

i thought that only enabled console??

Don't think. That usually solves the problem. It does indeed enable the console but it also stops the background from being loaded.
