I Seriously want to know why, Valve hasn't said a word about the release date, why is everyone looking almost 2 months down the line?

I was hoping that Valve would try their upmost to release it before sep 30th as to stop the opening sentence of every HL2 review as "It was delayed for a over a year ..Blah Blah"

Am I missing something and Valve did say something about november?

Not many games come out in October. They would rather wait 1 month to release it so it gets bought up in huge amounts by X-mas shoppers.

That doesn't answer it though, A conservative guess would be early to mid october and that would be generous of us thinking Valve wuld take that long, but NOVEMBER!

It just pisses me off!

Oh I see, so they want to try and squeeze even more money out of this,

Gabe is making Jesus cry.

honestly, do you think releasing it near xmas time will have that big a difference in how many copies the game sells? I just wish valve would do what ID did, tell us it will be released when its done. I think they've pushed the hype enough......

I dont know what all this November talk is about ?? But they (Valve) have gone extremely quiet over the last couple of weeks - No replies to emails, no forum posts from Valve employees, Zip, Nothing, Zilch??

Something must be going on ???

Yep - they're working :)

That would explain it then - :imu:

But seriously this is quite a long media blackout (By Valves standards)

No it's not, this is hardly anything. :p Valve are always silent, and they hardly release any media at all.

yeah have been pretty silent since HL occasionaly releasing a patch/update, or HL expansion pack just to let you know they havent disappeared off the face of the planet.

im thinking october ... next year. if we are lucky.

I'm sure they wouldn't need to release in November to make money. I mean, it IS Half-Life 2.

and maybe they got tired of all the little girls moaning and crying when they miss a date(they cant stick to them so why bother giving one). so to save us and themselves some grief, they just decided to shut up until its done

That's not entirely true. From this year's E3 to somewhere in August we were flooded with all kinds of info and media. But now it's silent again. This can mean two things: either they're not yet happy with the game and need more time (something similar to end of 2003 and early 2004) or they're preparing for the BIG BANG! (like id sofware just beofre they announced Doom 3 is gold). I'm hoping for the latter.

Yes. If it's released in November. It will be right at the very front of every store cap. It will have huge signs, and promotions, and whatnot. If it comes out in October, by the time November rolls around, other games will have that front spot.

cmon guys.

valve say: autumn [august]

we all really know: november is best bet.

I don't get what releasing in november will do. I mean the games still on the shelves in christmas and its not like any new games are coming out that are any better in those 2 months so the flavour will be HL2. Why lose customers when you can get some before holidays then some at holidays. november is a month away from christmas depending on when they release it in november, what makes them think someone will keep their mind on it long enough till christmas? might as well release it as soon as possible so they can get in all possible buyers and stop throwing money out the drain.

Edit: I say just release the game as soon as possible, almost all the fans would buy it, then throw in some advertising around christmas to spark interest in it for the holidays then they get the best of both without losing as much money.

Valve CANNOT make the summer release. Today is September 10th, the CS:S beta isn't done, so they can't send final RC for testing. Even if it did go gold tomorrow, the beta ended, AND the RC passes, ts highly unlikely it would be on shelves until mid next month since vivendi takes a while on games (unless they make a big exception for hl2)

And they arn't going to say they "missed" anything because they didn't set an official date like they did last year.

They just said we're "shooting for" summer, which really is just a guess not something you write solid in concrete like September 30th. They will miss but we will have it by november i'm sure...

personally i think it'll go gold *maybe* first week of october

Ah ha ha, silly rabbit. Jesus has nothing to do with this.

Everyone knows, Jesus plays XBox.

Just kidding. Jesus is dead and he ain't coming back.*

There are some good threads (maybe in rumors?) that discuss the reasons that Half-life will take however-long to come out. Having to do with RC's, manufacturing, and the logistics of a world-wide realease. Anyway, valve has delayed over a year, they can delay some more if they want. I take solice that they will not miss an Xmas release date, no way... So I know it wont be another year.

* If anyone is offended, don't be. I'm just foolin around, blasphemically speakin'.

well a late september release is a hopeful release because there r only 3 weeks felt in the month, i would say that if i does come out in sept then it has to go gold this week or even in the next couple of days and that seems very unlikily, because what will make a gold to release long is because of the demand for the game is high and the ce version, which a lot of people seem to want, comes with a lot of cool stuff and the beta of cs:s isnt done.

i believe cs:s beta is the reason for delay. any thoughts to this?

actually, if u think about it, hl2 will make more money now then november because hl2 doesnt have any game to compete with in september and early october, however, in november halo 2,gtasa, gran turismo 4, and many others will be released and those r console game which will sell better to the causal gamer because u do need a pretty good pc to run hl2!

People are getting smarter (although still two months off)

hehe welcome guus345... anyways, it's not the cs:s beta that's the delay, well in part it is, i think...but i wouldn't blame it on cs. as gabe said in an e-mail somewhere, cs:s is a stress test for the SOURCE MP engine. cs:s is going along nicely, hell i played today and it turns out they added blood decals on the players for where you get hit by bullets. it's really cool :D. so everything they add into cs:s from now on, is entirely source stuff that they'll add into all the MP games. tfc, dod, cs:s, hl2. that's what i think. i mean c'mon, what better way to test source itself than by using cs:s beta? and personally, it's looking and feeling better and better with every update. i think anything from mid october to late november is pretty resonable for a release date. anything before that should be considered as icing on the cake.
