why is my game running jerky with specs above and beyond?

Hello all, I just got the game. It`s tremendous so far. My question is this. I just upgraded to:
P4 3 gig cpu
1 gig ram ddr 3200
leadteck 6800 gt geforce
500 watt power supply
windows xp
cpu runnung at 60 degrees working hard
I updated all drivers for mother board,vid card,ect.{as far as I can tell}
yet the game settings are recommended for my system by the game as 1089x768 max resolution. When I turn it up it gets jerky. and some other settings at medium
. I figured for sure I had plenty to run smooth at max settings.
Also,With this video card came splinter cell. When I loaded that it said also that I could only run at 1089x769 because my vid card dosnt have " non power-of-two render target" support.
I included that as it mught be why I cant run HL2 higher.
And why would leadtek include a game that shows an error saying the card cant handle it at high res.
Any suggestions appreciated, Paul

depends on ur monitor and 1089x768 is a very odd resolution never heard of it lol

well....there's probably either something wrong with the video card itself, or the video card settings are messed up. I've had this problem once. But I have an ATI video card, so I'm not sure if I know how to fix your problem, other than to contact the company who made it.

p.s. 1089x768 is in my list of resolutions for most games.

Thx for your replies. I found one of my 512 ram sticks not all the way in the slot.{ i have 2} I fixed it and am running at highest settings and it`s amazing!! THIS is a great game. Best FPS Ive seen yet.It`s like running around in a movie.And the physics are amazing as wel. I just like to walk around and bash stuff with the crow bar and look around.And this 6800 gt is running it flawlessly. Paul

Don't worry about that "non power-of-two render target" in Splinter Cell. As far as I can tell, it seems to happen with the nvidia 6 series. It even says that with my 6600gt, but don't worry, it runs the game just fine.
