why is my steam updating O.o

my steam hasnt been coming on the last few days (as i expected) but today it came on, and it says its updating, well i get the little icon in the taskbar..... wtf! ?

Will my current beta Steam update to the "real" Steam when it's released, or do I have to uninstall and download the new steam from the site?
