Remember in the original HL when u had to kill that spider thing? She spat out headcrabs and other tiny headcrabs. Is their more of her kind since their are more headcrabs etc? Their must be for HL2.

She was called Gonarch. I'm pretty sure she's not present in HL2.

Even though there aren't any Gonarch's in Half-Life 2, it's safe to assume there was more than one. It would be a pretty sorry species if all the members depended on just one member for survival.

Yeah, that is right.

Looked like a big spider with the biggest nut sack ever. I'm sure there was others.

Kinda like that one boss from Doom 3, eh? The Vagary I think it was called.

There were undoubtably other Gonarchs, and probably other species that produced other types of Headcrabs - like the "poison" headcrabs.

That was a mix between the giant brain baddie from doom2 and the shalrath from quake1... so nope...

wow. i forgot that baddie...maybe HL:S really will be worth playing....

or pehaps the combine geneticly cloned then from the left over crabs at black mesa! that would fit the theory that the headcrabs were deliberately dropped in places by the combine, theres many ways to argue it, even with no more gonarchs.

Or, the combine took sperm samples from Gordon since he was one of the few survivors of Black Mesa, used his sperm, found a spider-cricket in someone's basement (anyone who has a basement knows these things), and cloned them together and vwualla -- headcrabs. Should explain their almost horny, zealous motives to latch onto your face.

Far-fetched, no? I think not...

why are there headcrabs? i think you mean.

im not sure if this is a spolier or not but don't they come down in some kinda pods or something. Perhaps Breen is breeding them to takeover the places outside of the cities 1-17 in order to create fear and supress the people to these cities so they can easily be controlled. After all, its safer here.

god, you know what he was talking about. So did every other person in this thread. Do you have to correct him? Does it make you feel like a larger geek?

excuse the broken english

i like the idea of whoever sed suttin bout combine or breen using headcrabs to scare the humans or whatever.

my lil idea goes suttin along the lines of unleashin xen aliens on earth to weaken it's defenses then movin ur own troops in.

but i dont think that is what happens in hl2.

what i wonder is, why do headcrabs keep warping about when in Decay we did something to prevent smaller creatures to teleport automatically in the third mission. which is why at some point in HL headcrabs and houndeyes stop appearing out of nowhere. those that we see late in the game have been chilling around for a while.

and I'm sure that it looks that way and was not so subtly named "gonarch" escapes anyone?

The "Gon" syllable suggests reproduction. The "arch" syllable suggest that it's the highest or leader of something. So I dare say the name is supposed to suggest what its alternate name name does: "Big Momma".

I don't think it's escaped most people.

So who thinks the the headcrabs where brought to Earth by the Combine?
And who thinks the headcrabs just ended up on earth?

I think the headcrabs are meant to find a host and mutate into a zombie and eventually after a time mutate into another Gonarch, or reach its adult state. On a side note, I think after Black Mesa, the headcrabs left on Earth adapted by getting beefier, branching off into various species, etc /speculation.

So it's possible there is another Gonarch, but I doubt it'll be in HL2 because that would be redundant.

Those headcrabs are here because every possible FPS need at least that one creature that is very hard to get hit with guns and you must go melee. :D

Seriously, I dont have any clue.

Or that it squirts white goo at you?

Big Momma didn't spat out normal headcrabs, just the small ones.

The pod theory about scaring people is right about the headcrabs. Maybe the combine captured some Gonarchs to create more?
