why is vivendi holding out on Valve?

We've waited a whole year since they originally anticipated a release. I Know I've been patient but another 2 months is a long time if you ask me. We need to hear from somebody real soon. None of this constant " it wiil be out this summer" Every one know that summer ends in the end of september.

What does that have to do with it? Doom 3 has been out a,most a month now and was boring to me I returned it after I played for a new game.

It might be the reason for the delay.
The late release of the preload, might be because they wanted to finilize everything from their side (and leave the checks for Vivendi).

I hope Vivendi isn't make a big mistake and holding the game till the holidays.
I also don't think that Gabe would allow that... After all, he has Steam...

The game is in release candidate stage as far as we know. If it isn't in release candidate stage then that's Valve not finished yet.

If it's still in RC stage then it means the game isn't ready to be released yet and further bug fixes need to be made.

That aside, this thread is also pointless - this has nothing whatsoever to do with Vivendi or the release of Doom 3. Why should it? Valve own Steam and they can release the HL2 whenever they like.

It seems that people are more than happy to use the Steam client (given the queues for the HL2 preload), so why would they even need Vivendi to burn off a few CDs for them, when everyone can download it with the minimum of fuss?

I did play all the way through it and it was really boring. You go into a area looking for a pda to get the next area/level. Monsters spawn behind you Ohhh That's scary!!!!! (Sarcasm) really repetitive. If I were to play HL1 I'd have more enjoyment out of it because of it's replay value. I agree that the graphics are top notch but that is not what makes a great game.

I've played Counterstrike and maybe because I'm not very good at it I can't seem to get into it as much as everyone else has. Although I love TF and DOD. Someday mabe. I hope tht is not the reason that it it is being delayed. I understand that it's important to many. And I hope that CS it is not the only Multiplayer aspect of HL2 when released.

um..there's these wonderful things called contracts, and maybe they have one that states that the copies released via steam cannot be made available to play until retail versions hit the shelves, so as to not stick vivendi with millions of cd's that one buys, and a bunch of empty boxes.
as far as i know, valve HAS to buy those boxes back if they are not all sold....i seem to recall that gabe said he would not mind, but that vivendi might be upset..

The game is NOT finished.

I don't see how it would be profitable for them to wait for Christmas now that it's close enough anyway. But, I've been wrong before.. once.

Well, for most people, there ins't money falling out of their pockets and they really have one shot at a holiday blockbuster purchase. Sure there are those that would buy it in Sept, and buy something else in Dec...but for most it wont happen that way. If a november release were to occur, it would get exposure to the maximum density of people with disposible income designated for a video game purchase.

I don't belong to that group...I have plenty set aside for games so I say if you don't bring it out before the end of Oct I just won't buy it at all. I am sick of all the BS surrounding this game.

But consider the fact that people are Christmas shopping even now. Guaranteed the game will make better profit now being closer to the holidays than it would've had it been out in the summer or spring. But the demand will be pretty inelastic between now and november. Fact is, Vivendi would not make any more profit by delaying the game at this point.

I would even go as far as to say that releasing the game in november would prove to have lower profits than if the game were released in september or early october, and being a business student I do know how these simple concepts work.

So don't fret kids Vivendi would not hold out if they had any sense.

Yeah tbh im sick of BS. All they do is hype the game say its out in on a date, change there mind, announce a new date and now we see its going to be november now. Talk about Assholes. Sorry to be frank, but i was hoping for a September realise date (of lasty year) and a year later nothing but hype.

This year first it was April, the early summer,late summer,september,now october/november.

Its Hyped to death. and why are they still realising screenshots? We dont care about silly screenshots. If only Valve were like ID Software and keep quiet about the game and then realise it when its done instead of bullshitting all time.

Apologies for the language but im sick of the crap with HL2.
